Editorial and safety policy
How a guide is made
Each guide answers one question. Amounts and timings are given as ranges taken from published supplier instructions listed on Sources; where no instruction sheet gives a number, the figure is labelled approximate. Every guide is written to a fixed brief that allows only the numbers listed on Sources. A sample of each batch is read in full against the sources, and every guide is scanned for the safety wording below before publication. Errors that readers report are corrected.
Safety rules every guide follows
- Patch test and strand test before any dye or rinse, as the product instructions say.
- Black henna. Pure henna only gives red-orange tones. "Black henna" for skin often contains PPD; the U.S. FDA approves henna only as a hair dye.
- Henna before chemicals. No bleach or box dye over henna without a strand test, because compound henna can contain metallic salts.
- No medical claims. Nothing here grows hair, stops hair loss, treats a scalp or skin condition, or reverses greying. Nothing should be eaten or drunk.
- Oils and hydrosols are covered for cosmetic use, storage and patch testing only.
What the planner is
The Mix Planner is a calculator over a rules table. It cannot see your hair, and real results depend on your powder, water, temperature and hair. Treat its output as a starting point and strand test.
Independence
No brand pays for coverage. Suppliers are named only because their published instructions are the source of a number.
