Something that I like to do from time to time is to take turns with a friend to play makeup artist on each other’s faces. It means we get to hang out, try different makeup products, and have the experience of doing someone else’s makeup which is actually so hard! This time my canvas was the lovely Laura of Laura Laura Blog. We met through the #brunchclub bloggers meet ups that she is an organiser for and now we are really close friends and talk pretty much every day. I loved having the opportunity to use some different makeup products like the Colourpop eyeshadows and her Urban Decay Naked 2 palette.
Doesn’t Laura look beautiful? (the only acceptable answer is yes).
Let’s have a closer look at her makeup
I used a mixture of my makeup and her makeup, depending on what I thought would work best/my curiousity. We ended up with quite the makeup carnage on my bed and makeup table
The products that I ended up using were the following:
- Dermalogica HydraBlur Primer
- Clinique CC cream
- Rimmel stay matte powder – transparent
- Collection concealer*
- Nars Orgasm blush
- Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette – Busted and Booty call eyeshadows
- Colourpop eyeshadow – High tide and Truth
- Colourpop Lippie Stix – Tootsi
- Collection Does It All Mascara*
- Billion Dollar Brows taupe powder*
For her base, I started with Dermalogica HydroBlur Primer – it has the classic smooth primer base to it, but I didn’t see much of a blur effect, probably because Laura’s skin is smooth and wrinkle-free. She was a bit in between with foundation colours so I actually used my Clinique CC Cream and a wee bit of Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer to even out her skin tone. I set it all with my trust Rimmel Stay Matte powder, before finishing off with NARS Orgasm blush on the cheeks. I can see why Orgasm is a super popular blush, I love the shimmer and colour to it.
Colourpop High Tide (left) and Truth (right)
I didn’t have a specific plan of what I was going to do with her eye makeup, I just sort of went with the flow. I started by applying two different Colourpop Supershock eyeshadows to her eyelids, with High Tide closer to her lashline and Truth back towards the crease. I found them to be hard to blend with my fingers, and I was scared of poking her eye out with my long nails. So I used some eyeshadows from her Naked 2 palette since those were easier to use with brushes.
Here’s how the look came together – the two Naked 2 eyeshadows Busted and Booty Call were quite similar to the Colourpop ones so it blended together nicely. On her eyebrows I used Billion Dollar Brows Taupe powder. I always use the Taupe powder in my Billion Dollar Brows All About Brows kit, it’s an almost universal colour that is really flattering, and handy that they sell it separately too. On her lips I used Colourpop Lippie Stix in the shade Tootsi – the name is pretty ridiculous but the colour is nice. When I did Jordanne‘s makeup a while ago I used Colourpop lippie stix too and they were really nice.
L-R Billion Dollar Brows Brow Brush, Bdellium Tools 766 Blending Brush, Urban Decay brush from Naked 2, Real Techniques Buffing Brush, Real Techniques Multi Task Brush, and Diane #4350 Professional Powder Brush.
I mainly used Laura’s brushes, and it was nice getting to try some other brushes. They aren’t usually something you can try before buying. The Billion Dollar Brows brush & spoolie comes with the powder which is great, very useful for filling in brows. The Real Techniques brushes were great as expected, they can always be relied on for great brushes.

What do you think – should I quit my day job? (Kidding!). Let me know in the comments what you think, and don’t forget to pop over to Laura Laura Blog to see my makeup!

As most of you know, I’m single and dating at the moment. As a ‘typical girl’ it takes me forever, and a million products to get ready for a date. So, in his post I’m going to give you a behind the scenes look into the process of me getting ready for a date! I can do it in a rush, if need be, but I really would rather not. I enjoy the process – I always have music playing and usually have a pre-drink. A fair few of these products I’m using I’ve blogged about before since I like to use my tried-and-trued products, so I’ll link to the reviews where I can. I hope you enjoy this peek into my life…and if you’re the guy I’m dating, stop reading now, it’ll ruin the illusion.
And so we begin…

Last weekend, my friend Jordanne from Jordanne Leigh and I played makeup artist for the day, and did each other’s makeup. It was a great afternoon, with many cups of tea consumed, me cuddling her baby extensively, and then we got down to business. I really enjoyed being able to see all of her products, many of which I had never tried before. I’ve done other people’s makeup on a handful of occasions, but it’s always a challenge. Here is the beautiful finished result, and then I’ll go through what I used and how I applied it, to get the look that Jordanne is wearing.

A few weeks ago my friend Meagan who blogs over at This Is Meagan Kerr, put a call out for plus size women to be photographed for her body positive fashion project. It’s called Fat Girls Shouldn’t Wear Stripes – Fearless Style, and she wanted women to pick out their favourite outfit, and to step in front of her camera being our fat fabulous selves. In a rush of confidence, I volunteered to do it, and before I knew it I was pretending to be a supermodel for Meagan. I was really nervous – publicly putting my name and face and body out there as a fat woman was a big deal. Nevertheless, one Sunday morning I got up and got ready for it – despite the fact that I was at the peak of my Glandular Fever, not that I knew it yet. In this post, I’m going to show what makeup I chose to represent my fearless style.

In 2013, I joined a Facebook group that would change my life. That sounds slightly dramatic, but really, it’s true. I joined Makeup Obsessives, and went from someone with a mild interest in makeup, to a full on obsessive. The group started small, but now it has 30 000 members which is incredible – but it still feels like a cosy family that is super supportive and amazing. People say sometimes that women who are interested in typically girly things, especially makeup, are vapid, and bitchy, but I haven’t found that to be the case with MUO.
Of course, I’ve had the odd clash with someone but that’s bound to happen with so many people – but the admins manage to keep things running smoothly. Recently a meet up for the group was held in Auckland, and I headed along. This was my fourth meet up, and as always it was great. Even at my first meet up when I had never met anyone else, I felt really welcomed and like part of the group. Today’s post is a bit of a long one, but it’s a goodie – all about the great event, and of course, the makeup that I wore.

In December, I did a bit of a post-breakup ‘treat yo self’ haul from Sephora, and by far my favourite thing that I purchased was the Sephora Favorites Give Me Some Lip limited edition set. It’s a set of 6 different lip products, mainly mini sized, and has a good variety between brands and types of products; including Bite Beauty, Urban Decay, Marc Jacobs, NARS, Buxom and Smashbox. I thought it was a good opportunity to try products from different brands since only Smashbox is available in New Zealand. It feels a bit silly to be reviewing a set that is no longer available, however, all the products are available in full sizes so hopefully this will be a useful post, rather than just showing off something I bought.

I had been wanting to buy a highlighting powder for a while, but was pretty confused by all of the options. On my recent trip to Australia, I went in to Mecca Maxima and was helped by a lovely sales assistant, and she said that the NARS Albatross Highlighting Blush would be perfect for me – and she was so right! When applied to the top of my cheekbones, this is just stunning, and I absolutely had to have it.

My friend Jordy tagged me to do this Lip Product Addict tag in her latest youtube video. She also blogs and you should definitely check her site out – A Little Pinch Of Wonder. After you’ve finished reading this post of course!
This tag is for lip product addicts, and I certainly am one, as you can see by this picture. I probably have more tucked away in drawers and in handbags too, but this is the bulk of my collection.
SO MANY LIP PRODUCTS!!
1. Favorite balm/treatment?
Burt’s Bees Nourishing Lip Balm with Mango Butter. This is the lip balm that gets the honour of living in my handbag, as you might be able to tell from the fact that the label is completely rubbed off.
How it looks when new
My lip balm with totally worn off label
2. Best eye-catching red?
Revlon Super Lustrous Creme Fifth Avenue Red. I got it through a reddit exchange as mentioned in this post, and I am so delighted with it. It’s just a really classic red, which makes sense as it’s from the 1950s.
3. Best luxury & best drugstore?
The closest I have to a luxury brand is NARS Velvet Gloss lip pencil – the shade is New Lover. They sell for $51 in New Zealand but I got it in a Sephora gift bag. It’s a pink with gold flecks in it, perfect for parties.
My best drugstore product is this Milani Gloss Stain in the shade Mango Tango that I also received from my reddit exhange. It’s glossy but stains, and is quite long wearing. I probably wouldn’t have chosen the shade for myself but I really love it. It sells for $6.50 in the US which is very affordable.
4. Best MAC lipstick?
Syrup! So smooth and pretty, and it just works with so many different looks. It’s one of my most worn lipsticks by far, and it made it to my top 6 lipsticks.
5. The most disappointing?
ChiChi Creamy Matte Liquid Lipstick – not matte, nor long wearing like they claim it is. A sandwich and a glass of wine left me with only a faint tinge. I do love the colour, which is the shade Show Stopper, but it doesn’t live up to it’s description or my expectations. I’d seen so many people rave about them, and I really just don’t understand the love for it.
I wore it to a party last week and had to reapply three times
Swatched on my hand
6. Liner – yes or no?
No. I have too many shades of lipstick, it’d be crazy to try and match them all. I have a couple and use them if I want really long wearing lip colour but generally I go without.
7. Best gloss?
This product by Natio is technically an ‘Antioxidant Lip Shine’ but really it’s a gloss. It’s fairly pigmented for a gloss, and not disgustingly sticky like many of them can be. The shade is called ‘Love’ which is quite sweet. It has Jojoba Oil and Shea butter which makes it slightly moisturising.
8. Something extra!
My L’Oreal Infallible long wear lip duo really lives up to it’s name. Last year I swatched all of my lip products on my arm for a forum post, and this lip duo lasted for so long. I gave my arm a good scrub but it wouldn’t budge, eventually it came off the next day. The colour is ‘perma-pink’ and that is the perfect description!
The picture of them all swatched shows just how much my collection has grown in the last year since my make up addiction has grown! It also has one of my beloved Clinique Chubby Sticks that I have since lost tear.
What do you think of my answers? Do you agree or disagree? Jordy listed the ChiChi matte liquid lipstick as a favourite, so it goes to show that different people have different tastes!
If any of you that are reading feel inspired to do this tag, link it in the comment section and I’ll check it out
