Mecca Max Lip product review - new range from Mecca Maxima - by Lena Talks Beauty

It’s an exciting time for beauty addicts down under, as Mecca Maxima has released their own brand – Mecca Max. They have products in just about every category – foundation, nail polish, brushes & other tools, false lashes. You can do your entire face from this range! For overseas readers, Mecca Maxima is our answer to Sephora. They have stands where you can try products, lots of fun minis, and helpful staff. There is a sister store Mecca Cosmetica which is more expensive products, skincare, and fine fragrance. My taste is more aligned with Mecca Maxima so I’m very excited that they are opening a store here in Auckland!

“A collection of 25 ‘MAXimiser’ products that hero the range, with stand-outs including eye and skin primers, a strobing stick, an
artistry palette and a double-ended mascara. Plus the entry-level price point means items range from just $5 to $45, making MECCA MAX accessible to beauty novices and devotees alike.”

November and December empties

Wednesday, December 21st 2016 Uncategorised

Cetaphil, simple, trilogy, za cosmetics, burts bees, living nature, the balm,, australis velourlips, stila,

This post is a combined November/December empties post since I didn’t finish many products during November. There’s also a section of the post which aren’t empty products, but they’ve either expired or somehow earned their space in the bin. I was just going to throw them out, but some of them I had never blogged about and wanted to say my piece. This is a fairly makeup heavy post, but there’s also skincare, nail care, and hair care included in there as well.

MAC Good Luck Trolls Collection Review - Lena Talks Beauty

Good Luck Trolls is MAC Cosmetics’ newest limited edition collection and it has filled me with glee. The packaging is bright, as are the colours contained inside. This post isn’t a full review as I only received my press samples a few days before the collection came out, but I wanted to give you all a look at what the collection is like – so you know to head to your local counters! I’ve also included pricing and store availability for MAC in New Zealand, since this information can be hard for us to find.

“Hair we go! The wild-haired dolls of your youth bring their rainbow tufts, bejewelled bellies and lucky charms to M·A·C Good Luck Trolls – a crazy-hued collection as silly as the creatures themselves. From Lipglass in Bubble Butt to Eye Shadow in Suns Out, Buns Out and Beauty Powder in Glo Rida…being a troll has never been so glamorous!”

MAC Flamingo Park Collection

Flamingo Park is the newest limited edition collection from MAC Cosmetics, and it is delightfully bright. As you may have seen on my social media, I was sent a lipstick, beauty powder, and lip gloss from this beautiful collection and today I’ll be reviewing them for you.

“Plunge into the punchy pleasures of pink in a freshly made batch of scrumptious colours that let you have your cake, and wear it too. Glisten pretty on a sunny day with Powder Blush, a fun way to bring delicious colour to your cheeks. Paint it pink and get your just desserts anytime, but be ready to share!”

3 Ways with MAC Heroine

Thursday, October 29th 2015 Beauty

I’m Elese from elesedowden.com & today Lena’s kindly let me guest post about one of my favourite topics. Of all the not-red-nude-or-pink coloured lipsticks in the world, purple is probably the least intimidating to tackle. It’s not as scary as mint, blue or yellow (Colorpop Charm anyone?), and yet, it still says something between “Mac DeMarco at the King’s Arms – keen?” and “It’s possible that I’m edgier than a NSFW metareddit.”

MAC Vamplify Collection - Lena Talks Beauty

The latest collection from MAC Cosmetics is Vamplify – a collection of strongly pigmented, long wearing lip glosses, and lip pencils.

“Be seduced by our most dramatic lip gloss yet. Loaded with high-powered pigments that hug lips in shades that glisten with a delicious shine, one swipe loads lips with attitude as a combination of lush natural oils polish with impeccable, moisturizing colour. Never a tease, the glossy colour wears comfortably for hours, for a look that comes on strong and doesn’t let go.”

I was excited to receive two of these Vamplify glosses from MAC Cosmetics, and I have swatches, pictures of them on my face and full review, so read on!

MAC Haute Dogs Collection

MAC Haute Dogs Collection

The newest collection from MAC Cosmetics is inspired by dogs – that’s a sentence that I never thought I would write! Here is what they said about the new limited edition Haute Dogs collection:

“(Wo)man’s best friend is barking up the right tree in a well-groomed collection of new canine-inspired hues from M·A·C, featuring luscious, buttery fur tones, gold-spun sculpting powders, and regal berries for lips.”

I am actually scared of dogs, and was seriously phobic of them as a child, but you know what? I can get on board with this collection because I love MAC, and I love these colours! MAC have sent me two products for review – the Lap Dog Mineralise Lipglass, and Pure Bred Mineralise Eyeshadow quad.

MAC Toledo Collection

I am very excited to share with you some of the lip products from the MAC Toledo Collection. This is a limited edition range released in collaboration with Isabel and Ruben Toledo, who are renowned for their fashion design and illustration work. MAC Cosmetics have sent me the Oxblood Lipglass, as well as the Tenor Voice and Sin Lipsticks, and I have swatches and photos of all of them in use. I’ll also be sharing some pictures of other products that I’m lusting over from the Toledo collection.

What’s in my bag

Sunday, June 8th 2014 Uncategorised

I have to admit, I’m a bit of a nosy person. It’s not a very good habit, so I try to refrain from doing it most of the time. One thing I love on blogs or youtube videos is when people show us what’s in their bag. It’s like I’m being nosy, but they’re actually showing me! So, I’ve decided to show you all what lives in my bag. I’ll focus mainly on the beauty products but I’ll show you the rest of what I haul around with me too.

To start off with, here is the bag itself. I got it in the Boxing Day sales last year, and it’s great. Big enough to carry what I need, but not so big that I make it ridiculously heavy.

My essentials

My essentials

Here is everything that’s in my bag, and it shows pretty much everything that I usually carry. Not shown are my glasses because they were on my face, or my work phone because I don’t carry it in the weekend. I have other things from time to time, like my Kindle, or something I’m knitting, but this stuff is mainly the essentials. I have my gorgeous wallet from Collette, another Boxing Day buy. It’s quite big but I have a lot of coffee loyalty cards to hoard, so it’s perfect. I have another card holder for business cards, because I’m a fancy professional lady. There’s also a portable phone charger, and a spare phone battery, because my phone’s battery life is abysmal. The thing that is just a reflection is tictacs, in case anyone was wondering. I have some medication there too, not exciting but it’s practical. I have headphones, to listen to music on my phone or ipod which I sometimes carry too. The rest is fairly self explanatory.

Now onto the beauty products:

Eye drops, moisturiser, hand cream and hand sanitiser

These items are useful but not so glamourous. Drops for when my eyes get dry, a mini moisturiser for my face, mini hand cream, and some scented hand sanitiser.

Taylor Swift perfume, brush, hairties

Exciting things! Napoleon Perdis lip gloss (no shade written, just got it free with a magazine last year), one of my favourite lipsticks – Rimmel Kate Moss Matte #107, Jordana Barely Pink 165, and Burt’s Bees Mango lip balm. These lip products change all the time – I tend to put in whatever I’ve applied that morning, and they collect in there during the week. These ones happen to be real favourites of mine, and they get worn regularly. I expected the Jordana one to be kind of crappy because it was $4, and I only bought it because people in the Makeup Obsessives group were raving about them, but I really like the colour of it. I’ve swatched them for you below, except the lip balm because it’s clear and not interesting to look at really.

I don’t carry any other make up with me. I used to carry a pressed powder but it smashed, and although I (my boyfriend, really) managed to fix it with isopropyl alcohol, I didn’t want to tempt fate. I just don’t feel like anything else really needs to be touched up during the day. My foundation and eye make up usually stay put pretty well, so all I do is reapply lipstick.

This wasn’t a strictly beauty post, but I think there will be some nosy readers among you that enjoy having a look to see what I have in my handbag. I didn’t explicitly list everything because a lot of it is pretty obvious, but if you have any questions about the stuff in there, feel free to ask. What do you all carry in your bags? Are there some essentials that I’m missing?

Lip Product Addict Tag

Thursday, May 29th 2014 Makeup

My friend Jordy tagged me to do this Lip Product Addict tag in her latest youtube video. She also blogs and you should definitely check her site out – A Little Pinch Of Wonder. After you’ve finished reading this post of course!

This tag is for lip product addicts, and I certainly am one, as you can see by this picture. I probably have more tucked away in drawers and in handbags too, but this is the bulk of my collection.

SO MANY LIP PRODUCTS!!

SO MANY LIP PRODUCTS!!

1. Favorite balm/treatment?

Burt’s Bees Nourishing Lip Balm with Mango Butter.  This is the lip balm that gets the honour of living in my handbag, as you might be able to tell from the fact that the label is completely rubbed off.

2. Best eye-catching red?

Revlon Super Lustrous Creme Fifth Avenue Red. I got it through a reddit exchange as mentioned in this post, and I am so delighted with it. It’s just a really classic red, which makes sense as it’s from the 1950s.

3. Best luxury & best drugstore?

The closest I have to a luxury brand is NARS Velvet Gloss lip pencil – the shade is New Lover. They sell for $51 in New Zealand but I got it in a Sephora gift bag. It’s a pink with gold flecks in it, perfect for parties.

My best drugstore product is this Milani Gloss Stain in the shade Mango Tango that I also received from my reddit exhange. It’s glossy but stains, and is quite long wearing. I probably wouldn’t have chosen the shade for myself but I really love it. It sells for $6.50 in the US which is very affordable.

4. Best MAC lipstick?

Syrup! So smooth and pretty, and it just works with so many different looks. It’s one of my most worn lipsticks by far, and it made it to my top 6 lipsticks.

5. The most disappointing?

ChiChi Creamy Matte Liquid Lipstick – not matte, nor long wearing like they claim it is. A sandwich and a glass of wine left me with only a faint tinge. I do love the colour, which is the shade Show Stopper, but it doesn’t live up to it’s description or my expectations. I’d seen so many people rave about them, and I really just don’t understand the love for it.

I wore it to a party last week and had to reapply three times

  6. Liner – yes or no?

No. I have too many shades of lipstick, it’d be crazy to try and match them all. I have a couple and use them if I want really long wearing lip colour but generally I go without.

7. Best gloss?

This product by Natio is technically an ‘Antioxidant Lip Shine’ but really it’s a gloss. It’s fairly pigmented for a gloss, and not disgustingly sticky like many of them can be. The shade is called ‘Love’ which is quite sweet. It has Jojoba Oil and Shea butter which makes it slightly moisturising.

8. Something extra!

My L’Oreal Infallible long wear lip duo really lives up to it’s name. Last year I swatched all of my lip products on my arm for a forum post, and this lip duo lasted for so long. I gave my arm a good scrub but it wouldn’t budge, eventually it came off the next day. The colour is ‘perma-pink’ and that is the perfect description!

The picture of them all swatched shows just how much my collection has grown in the last year since my make up addiction has grown! It also has one of my beloved Clinique Chubby Sticks that I have since lost tear.

What do you think of my answers? Do you agree or disagree? Jordy listed the ChiChi matte liquid lipstick as a favourite, so it goes to show that different people have different tastes!

If any of you that are reading feel inspired to do this tag, link it in the comment section and I’ll check it out
