Bourjois is one of the oldest cosmetics houses, being founded in 1863 in France. It may have taken over 150 years but Bourjois is finally in New Zealand! I went to an event recently where we got to try a lot of their products, and learn more about the brand. I actually already had bought some Bourjois products, and received some for my birthday from a friend overseas, but I’m really glad that they’re in New Zealand now. I did a full face of makeup using exclusively Bourjois products, and here it is!
Smashbox is a brand that I have never really used much of – I have a couple of deluxe sample size products but nothing full sized….until now! Last weekend I was at NZ Fashion Weekend and visited the Smashbox stall. The helpful staff member showed me through their range, since I said I wasn’t very familiar with it. She showed me the Smashbox On The Rocks Photo Op Eyeshadow Palette and I gasped since it was so beautiful. I hesitantly asked the price, since I was expecting that it would be more than I could afford…and it was only $30!!! Naturally, I snapped it up – and naturally I’ll be showing it to you in this post today. Some online research informs me it was from their Holiday collection in 2014, but I’m going to show it anyway, because I’m very excited by it, and it won’t be long before 2015 holiday collections are coming out, and it’s good to know what to expect.
The newest collection from MAC Cosmetics is inspired by dogs – that’s a sentence that I never thought I would write! Here is what they said about the new limited edition Haute Dogs collection: “(Wo)man’s best friend is barking up the right tree in a well-groomed collection of new canine-inspired hues from M·A·C, featuring luscious, buttery fur tones, gold-spun sculpting powders, and regal berries for lips.” I am actually scared of dogs, and was seriously phobic of them as a child, but you know what? I can get on board with this collection because I love MAC, and I love these colours! MAC have sent me two products for review – the Lap Dog Mineralise Lipglass, and Pure Bred Mineralise Eyeshadow quad.
I made friends with Jasmin through Twitter, via one of the many chats like #bbloggers or similar – I’m not entirely sure, since it has been a while! She is from England, but mostly grew up in New Zealand so we connected over that. This swap was born when I posted about a new range of Whittaker’s Chocolate, and Jasmin was super keen to try some, and we decided to do a beauty swap as well. I sent her a Chi Chi eyeshadow palette, an Australis lipstick, Ecostore lip balm in addition to the chocolate treats. This is what I received from Jasmin! Jasmin sent me a Sleek eye and cheek palette, Makeup Revolution eyeshadow palette, Sleek brow kit, Rimmel lipstick, and a Bourjois liquid lipstick! I haven’t had time to use most of these properly yet, but I have my first impressions and observations and I’m sure they’ll feature in full blog posts in the future.
On Monday, the latest limited edition collection from MAC was launched in New Zealand. MAC is Beauty is about old-style glamour, inspired by fifties and sixties beauty parlours. Last week I attended the launch event, and had some of the products from the collection applied by one of their wonderful makeup artists. MAC also gifted me some of the collection which I’ve been trying out for myself, as you will see later in the post.
I’m very excited that Essence Cosmetics are now available in New Zealand! Essence is a European brand that I have bought from in Australia, but now they’ve made it to our shores. Essence has launched in New Zealand, and as part of that I was sent a number of their products to use *gleeful smile*. I tell you, being a beauty blogger is like it’s permanently Christmas. In this post I’ll be reviewing some of their face, lip, and eye products – spoiler alert, I like them a lot.
Recently I had some vouchers, and decided to spoil myself with some products from MAC. I went in there planning on buying Rebel and Heroine lipsticks, but with help from a lovely makeup artist I ended up with two completely different but equally beautiful products. I bought a Pressed Pigment in the shade Victorian Plum from the Heirloom Mix limited edition collection, and a Sheen Supreme Lipstick in the shade Zen Rose.
Today I’m going to be sharing with you my order from Darling Girl Cosmetics. They are an indie cosmetics company based in the USA, primarily known for their eyeshadows but also selling a range of other makeup. I mainly ordered to get Glitter Glue, which is a product that holds glitter or shimmer in place and makes your eye shadow look more vibrant. This is raved about all over indie makeup forums, and I desperately wanted it. I also purchased three eyeshadows, and received a mini eyeshadow and a sample bag as gifts with purchase. Marzipan Nipples, from the Black Collection, inspired by Orange Is The New Black. Mass Hysteria, from the Who Ya Gonna Call Ghostbusters-inspired collection. Survival Instinct, from the Hunger Games-inspired Only One Can Win collection Portal of Faces – gift with purchase. Splendor, sample bag.
ZA has created a beautiful range of Christmas gift sets, and kindly sent me one of them to show to you readers. I received a Za Holiday Edition Colour Makeup Set in Pure Silver. There is also a Pure Gold set, and both include one Limited Edition Impact-Full Eyes Eye Shadow Palette and 2 Limited Edition Rich Glam Liquid Rouge lipsticks. All of the products are lovely, and I have taken lots of swatches and pictures of me wearing them.
Lucky me – I won another baking-themed palette! This is the NYX Love In Paris 02 – Madeleines and Macaroons palette which I won in a competition on Beauty Bliss’s Facebook Page. I’ve swatched them all and will also be showing how it looks on my face!
