This month I have an absolutely bumper empties post, since I tidied my makeup table and did a bit of a clean up of my collection. Many of these aren’t actually empty, but they’re going in the bin all the same so they deserve to be in this post. There are a whopping 25 items, so I won’t be going through all of them individually – I’ll focus on the full size products that I’ve actually finished – so let’s get into it!
It recently occurred to me that whilst I have waxed lyrical about every makeup item I own, I haven’t written very much about the brushes that I use to apply it with! Well, that changes today, I’m going to share what some of my favourite makeup brushes are. I use brushes from a wide variety of brands, and the majority are from fairly affordable brands such as Eco Tools and Real Techniques. I’ve decided to split this into two different posts because otherwise it would be an excessively long, so today is all about the FACE.
Time has come for me to do another iHerb wishlist post! For those of you who are unfamiliar with this great site, iHerb is a US-based online store that sells a variety of products – from makeup, to skincare, as well as snacks, and supplements too. It caters to many of my interests for this reason, and I shop on there fairly regularly. This post contains affiliate links, but I shopped on iHerb long before I earned affiliate credit, and would link to it regardless. All prices in this post are in USD, as that is how iHerb list their prices, and it’s easy for people to convert into whatever currency they use, as I have readers all around the world. I’ve got a mixture of items in here, from skincare, to makeup, to tea! MADRE LABS, HAND CREAM, WITH ARGAN NUT OIL, $4.95 The first thing in my cart that I am definitely buying is the Madre Labs hand cream with Argan oil. I have bought this previously and used it up – even cutting the top off the tube to get it all out as you can see in this empties post. It’s so nice for the dry skin I […]
A few weeks ago my friend Meagan who blogs over at This Is Meagan Kerr, put a call out for plus size women to be photographed for her body positive fashion project. It’s called Fat Girls Shouldn’t Wear Stripes – Fearless Style, and she wanted women to pick out their favourite outfit, and to step in front of her camera being our fat fabulous selves. In a rush of confidence, I volunteered to do it, and before I knew it I was pretending to be a supermodel for Meagan. I was really nervous – publicly putting my name and face and body out there as a fat woman was a big deal. Nevertheless, one Sunday morning I got up and got ready for it – despite the fact that I was at the peak of my Glandular Fever, not that I knew it yet. In this post, I’m going to show what makeup I chose to represent my fearless style.
I am a fan of wearing coral lipstick, especially because it is so perfectly suited to warmer weather. It’s spring here in New Zealand, and we have been having some beautifully sunny days. Today I’m going to share with you three of my favourite coral lipsticks – ELF Matte Lip Color in Coral, Karen Murrell Coral Dawn and Avon Ultra Rich Color Lipstick in Skin. These lipsticks range from the reddish type of coral to more brownish, and they’re perfect for summer or spring days.
iHerb.com is one of my favourite sites to buy beauty products, and today I’m going to share what I think is the best of iherb, and also some things that are on my wishlist.
Sometimes, I like to have a bit of silliness on the blog, and today that’s what’s in store. I was thinking about doing a fun challenge, and so I thought ‘why don’t I do my makeup with my left hand’, and I did! It turned out to be less difficult than expected, which was interesting. Applying my foundation was a bit tricky, I had to go slowly rather than hurriedly smear it all over my face. At first my bronzer and blush looked very stripey but some blending rectified that situation. Where it got difficult was doing my eyebrows! The gel I use requires a gentle hand, and this wasn’t easy. My first eyebrow, which is the right in this picture, ended up being a bit of a mess and looked too heavy for my liking. I wasn’t terribly precise with the eyeshadow but the shades I chose meant that I could just blend it and it looked okayish. The biggest struggle was the liquid eyeliner. I could have made things easier for myself and chosen a pencil or even gel eyeliner but that would be less interesting. I’ll let you judge my efforts for yourself. Here’s the complete look […]
Today I’m going to show you a makeup look I did on my mum recently! I like playing makeup artist, it’s a challenge compared to doing makeup on myself – different skin types, different eye/lid area, just a totally different canvas to work on. All week she, my friend, and I had been joking about wearing ‘double makeup’ – twice as much as you would usually wear, so that was part of my ~creative vision~ for this look. Mum wears makeup most days but usually her eye makeup is fairly neutral so I decided to make use of colour in this looks to really make her pretty eyes pop! For the base of this look I used my NYX anti-redness primer – mum hasn’t really used primer before so it was a novelty for her. Then I applied her Revlon Colorstay foundation for normal to dry skin in shade 240 Medium Beige using my XOBeauty flat top brush. It had to be my brush as she doesn’t really believe in using brushes for foundation but I must say she was impressed with how it turned out so maybe we have a convert. There was no need for concealer but I […]
By the time you read this post I will be on holiday in Australia, for a girly holiday with my friend Laura and staying with my mum, yay! I always like looking at peoples’ travel makeup bag posts, so I’ll share mine with you now. It was hard to whittle down my collection, but I managed to fit it all into a reasonable sized bag! The base products I chose were Clinique Super City Block, NYX Photo-loving primer, Clinique CC Cream light, MAC Studio Sculpt NW20, Rimmel Stay Matte primer, ELF blush Peachy Keen, and ELF Under Eye concealer and highlighter in light. I wanted to have the option to do a full coverage base, as well as just swipe on some of the CC cream. I haven’t featured the CC cream on here before – here’s a swatch. Eye makeup was another set of difficult decisions! The mascara was a no-brainer, I chose Maybelline The Falsies Big Eyes which I’ve been using for a little while now and loving. The Sephora eyeliner pencil is handy because it’s got brown and black, and the NYX wonder pencil is perfect for the inner rims of my eyes. Then there’s Bobbi Brown […]
I am in love with Kmart, I find it impossible to not go there when I go to the mall, and every time I do I seem to end up buying something. This happened the other day, when I went in to buy a tshirt and came out with a tshirt, leggings and also some makeup. Last week I saw Morgan from Hyacinth Girl post her $20 makeup challenge, using Kmart products, and I was inspired. I wanted to try on all of my new products, and I combined this with a bit of a challenge – do an entire face of makeup using only products that can be bought at Kmart. Some of them I actually bought elsewhere but they can be bought at Kmart, so let’s not be nit picky! I started with Maybelline Dream Pure BB cream in the shade light, which has pretty decent coverage, and just put it all over my face with my fingers. Next up was one of my new purchases, ELF Studio Under Eye Concealer & Highlighter. I put the concealer, which was in the shade light under my eyes, and blended it with a brush, and then repeated with the highlighter, to brighten […]
