The Christmas season is fast approaching, and whilst some people have been shopping for months, others (me) leave it a bit later. The same goes for my gift guides – better late than never! I don’t typically write gift guides, because I find it hard enough to buy for my friends and family, let alone make suggestions for other people. However, I’ve been sent a number of press releases about some cool Christmas gift sets that I wanted to draw people’s attention to. Either you can buy them as gifts, or you can use this as a guide to shopping for yourself. The brands included in this post are MAC Cosmetics, Real Techniques, and Benefit Cosmetics – keep reading for more information.
After last month’s epic empties post, I have a significantly emptier empties box for December. At least that means I can actually to do a decent review of each product without my post being thousands of words long! I have 7 items this month, mostly skincare and mostly full sized too which is impressive.
A year or so ago, I bought the Benefit High Beam highlighter. I thought it was really pretty, but I didn’t really know how to use it. You can use it by applying it directly to your cheekbones, but I have since developed a different method that I prefer. It gives me luminous skin without being excessively highlighted, even for a day-to-day wear. Keep reading to find out just what that method is…
My recently posted some outtakes from her blog photo sessions and I’ve decided to do the same. I take so many more photos than I ever actually use, and some of them are terrible, hilarious and a mixture of the two. I’ll link the actual blog posts also, in case these outtakes inspire you to see them properly. So, without further ado: I was trying to keep my eyes wide open to demonstrate Benefit Roller Lash mascara but instead I just ended up looking very strange. For a better version, and a review of the mascara, click here.
Last week I was invited to the launch of Benefit’s new Roller Lash mascara. It was held at Dry & Tea at City Works Depot, which incidentally was somewhere I had been wanting to go for a while! I headed along with a few blogger friends, and we were all eager to check out what had been a mystery for us until that point. The Benebabes were there, and we got the chance to try out this fab new mascara, as well as lots of the rest of the Benefit Cosmetics range.
My stepsister Raquel is the queen of long lasting makeup. As a flight attendant, she has to look good for long trips, and she also makes her makeup look great for big nights out on the town. I’ve asked her some questions, to help you all in your quest to have your makeup look perfect for a long time – and for my own benefit too! I want to know her secrets and top tips for long lasting makeup.
By the time you read this post I will be on holiday in Australia, for a girly holiday with my friend Laura and staying with my mum, yay! I always like looking at peoples’ travel makeup bag posts, so I’ll share mine with you now. It was hard to whittle down my collection, but I managed to fit it all into a reasonable sized bag! The base products I chose were Clinique Super City Block, NYX Photo-loving primer, Clinique CC Cream light, MAC Studio Sculpt NW20, Rimmel Stay Matte primer, ELF blush Peachy Keen, and ELF Under Eye concealer and highlighter in light. I wanted to have the option to do a full coverage base, as well as just swipe on some of the CC cream. I haven’t featured the CC cream on here before – here’s a swatch. Eye makeup was another set of difficult decisions! The mascara was a no-brainer, I chose Maybelline The Falsies Big Eyes which I’ve been using for a little while now and loving. The Sephora eyeliner pencil is handy because it’s got brown and black, and the NYX wonder pencil is perfect for the inner rims of my eyes. Then there’s Bobbi Brown […]
This month I ordered my first GoodieBox, which is a beauty subscription box based here in NZ, along the likes of Birchbox which is in the US. It was their second birthday this month and there was going to be a super special box in store, so I decided to sign up. It arrived the other day, and I have to say, on first glance I was disappointed, but further evaluation has made me like it more. I think I’d built it up to be OMGAMAZING in my head, because of all the buzz about it. Here’s what I got: The products were as follows, and prices are NZ recommended retail price, according to information from Goodie Box. Benefit They’re Real Push Up Gel Liner (sample). The much-hyped Benefit liner sample was absolutely tiny, as you can see in the picture. I wasn’t expecting it to be full sized, but I thought the sample would be larger, and so did a lot of other people I know. But anyway, time to review the liner itself! It was kind of hard to apply due to how small it was I felt clumsy holding it, but I think I did a pretty decent job […]
Today is a bit of an unusual post because it’s not featuring my face – instead it’s my friend Caitlin! She has a fashion and beauty blog, and we decided to do each other’s makeup and post the results on our respective blogs. It was pretty fun, I never do anyone else’s makeup so it was a bit strange doing it and trying to be gentle, while still making them look fabulous. It was also cool looking through her makeup which was a bunch of things I’ve never used before, especially all the different Benefit products. Here she is before any makeup – looking gorgeous as always. The first product I put on her was MAC Prep and Prime Skin, which made for a nice smooth base. Then I used the Maybelline Fit Me foundation stick in the shade 120, and kind of drew some lines on her face then blended them with a foundation brush. I’ve never used a stick foundation before so I needed instructions “If you read my blog you’d know this!” she said. I do read her blog but I have to say I don’t memorise it. Sorry Caity. There were just a couple of […]
