Lena Talks Beauty - Za perfect action mascara brush

Za Perfect Action Mascara

For a long time, before I really got into makeup, I thought all mascaras were much the same. How wrong was I?! Recently I was given the Za Perfect Action Mascara* and it’s what I’ve been wearing on my lashes most of the time lately. It seems like time for me to review it, and share my feelings about this Za Cosmetics mascara. It offers three effects in one – seperate lashes, wide volume brush, and long stretch fibers – so let’s have a look at how well I think those effects stack up!

MUA for a day with Jordanne

Last weekend, my friend Jordanne from Jordanne Leigh  and I played makeup artist for the day, and did each other’s makeup. It was a great afternoon, with many cups of tea consumed, me cuddling her baby extensively, and then we got down to business. I really enjoyed being able to see all of her products, many of which I had never tried before. I’ve done other people’s makeup on a handful of occasions, but it’s always a challenge. Here is the beautiful finished result, and then I’ll go through what I used and how I applied it, to get the look that Jordanne is wearing.

Fearless Style – makeup edition

A few weeks ago my friend Meagan who blogs over at This Is Meagan Kerr, put a call out for plus size women to be photographed for her body positive fashion project. It’s called Fat Girls Shouldn’t Wear Stripes – Fearless Style, and she wanted women to pick out their favourite outfit, and to step in front of her camera being our fat fabulous selves. In a rush of confidence, I volunteered to do it, and before I knew it I was pretending to be a supermodel for Meagan. I was really nervous – publicly putting my name and face and body out there as a fat woman was a big deal. Nevertheless, one Sunday morning I got up and got ready for it – despite the fact that I was at the peak of my Glandular Fever, not that I knew it yet. In this post, I’m going to show what makeup I chose to represent my fearless style.

Makeup Obsessives meet up

In 2013, I joined a Facebook group that would change my life. That sounds slightly dramatic, but really, it’s true. I joined Makeup Obsessives, and went from someone with a mild interest in makeup, to a full on obsessive. The group started small, but now it has 30 000 members which is incredible – but it still feels like a cosy family that is super supportive and amazing. People say sometimes that women who are interested in typically girly things, especially makeup, are vapid, and bitchy, but I haven’t found that to be the case with MUO. Of course, I’ve had the odd clash with someone but that’s bound to happen with so many people – but the admins manage to keep things running smoothly. Recently a meet up for the group was held in Auckland, and I headed along. This was my fourth meet up, and as always it was great. Even at my first meet up when I had never met anyone else, I felt really welcomed and like part of the group. Today’s post is a bit of a long one, but it’s a goodie – all about the great event, and of course, the makeup that I wore.

Raquel shares her tips and products for long lasting makeup with Lena Talks Beauty

Top tips for long lasting makeup

My stepsister Raquel is the queen of long lasting makeup. As a flight attendant, she has to look good for long trips, and she also makes her makeup look great for big nights out on the town. I’ve asked her some questions, to help you all in your quest to have your makeup look perfect for a long time – and for my own benefit too! I want to know her secrets and top tips for long lasting makeup.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow

Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade has been talked about allllll over the beauty world for most of the last year, and I have been desperate to get on that bandwagon. It’s hailed as the holy grail of brow product by so many people, to create stunning bold brows. I agonised over choosing the right colour, since there are eight shades and one simply can’t have their brows the wrong colour. Morgan posted a comparison between Chocolate and Medium Brown on Hyacinth Girl and that sealed the deal for me. I selected medium brown and my stepsister brought it over to NZ for me, and I had it in my hands at long last.
