I was sent this beautiful lipstick from Smashbox a while ago, but I have been crazily busy with both work and personal stuff, so it has taken me a while to get around to actually writing about it. On the plus side, that means I can really give a thorough review of it, as opposed to if I might have only used something for a couple of weeks – although I always try to be thorough! This is from the original line of Smashbox Be Legendary lipsticks which are a cream formula, but they now have a range of matte lipsticks which I want to try too. The shade is Shock Me Pink, and it definitely is a shockingly bright pink.*
“Just one swipe and you’ll see this is the stuff beauty legends are made of. From modern mattes to hydrating creams, our ultra-luxe formula glides on for show-stopping, saturated color every time.”
Smashbox Shock Me Pink Be Legendary Lipstick is a hydrating cream formula that wears well, and provides a great colour to the lips. I found that it doesn’t apply quite as bright as it looks in the tube – if you compare the swatch below to how it looks on my skin or my lips you will notice a difference. I was a tiny bit relieved, as I was intimidated by how bright it looked.
The formula of the lipstick was nice and creamy, yet it wore well – it didn’t smudge all over the place as soon as I ate and drank like some cream lipsticks are. I would compare the formula to the MAC lustre lipsticks. If you want a long wearing lipstick then this lipstick isn’t the one for you unfortunately, but perhaps the new Smashbox Be Legendary Matte lipsticks might be right for you?
As I edited the photos for this post I noticed that it looked like slightly different colours depending on the lighting and where I was for the photo. The photo above was taken indoors, and the one below was outdoors where I think the natural lighting makes it look brighter. Please excuse my lack of other makeup, I only intended it to be a lip swatch photo but then I ended up liking the full face look!
I have to say, Smashbox is a brand that I think should definitely have more fame and hype around it – perhaps it’s just not widely available enough? As I said when I reviewed one of their palettes, the quality is top notch and they should be more known for it. Well, that starts here on this blog!
Smashbox Be Legendary Lipsticks are $45 here in New Zealand so if you want to treat yourself then I’d recommend it. Alternatively, put one on your christmas list and hope that Santa is feeling generous! Smashbox has free shipping on all NZ orders which is handy for if you don’t live near a stockist. Visit their website to see the full range of lipstick shades, or the rest of their collection – SmashboxCosmetics.co.nz
For my international readers, visit Smashbox.com for store/stockist location information.
