Real Techniques Deep Cleansing Gel and Miracle Complexion Sponge

Washing makeup brushes is a chore that I typically put off until it can’t wait any longer. What that means is by the time I do wash them, the generally need a pretty deep clean. This is where the Real Techniques Deep Cleansing Gel comes to the rescue! I have been using it to clean my brushes and sponges for the last little while and today I have a review of how well the gel works, as well as a giveaway!

When I first started to get into makeup, I didn’t have many makeup brushes, so I asked around about good brands to buy from. Real Techniques was one of the resounding answers and I have since bought quite a few of their brushes. Real Techniques is owned by Sam and Nic Chapman of the YouTube channel Pixiwoo, where they have been doing makeup tutorials for years now. Both sisters have worked as makeup artists, so they know all about the need for good brushes as well as cleaning them!

The cleansing gel, as well as a RT sponge & brush

My brush cleaning technique is the same regardless of the product that I’m using and I’ve blogged about it before. I wet the brush, put a bit of the Real Techniques Deep Cleansing Gel on my hand or Bossy brush cleansing pad, and start swirling it around. Seeing how much gunk comes out of brushes is both disgusting and really satisfying. The first time I used this to clean my Real Techniques Miracle Complexion sponge I was horrified to see just how much foundation kept rinsing out of it, and I had thought that I had been keeping it pretty clean.

The packaging is fairly simple but I like it – the gradient of pinks in the logo is so pretty. In terms of the practicalities, the gel is dispensed easily through the lid which you just click to open and close. It’d be good if you needed to take it somewhere as opposed to pump style brush detergents which I would not want to put in my bag! You don’t need to use too much of the gel to get your brushes clean so I think this bottle will last me quite a while.

The Real Techniques Deep Cleansing Gel is availble on iHerb for $8.99 (USD) which is a pretty good deal. If you are shopping on iherb.com for the first time and you use my code JPP391 you will save $5-10 on your order which means this could almost work out to cost you nothing at all!

Now for the part you’ve all been waiting for…THE GIVEAWAY!

I wanted to share the love with my readers and give back to you, so I have a Real Techniques Deep Cleansing Gel and a Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge to give away. This isn’t sponsored or partnered with Real Techniques BUT I did buy them with the affiliate credit I earn through people clicking my iHerb links.

I love this cleansing gel! My brushes seem to dry quite a bit faster after using this too. x

    • That’s a bonus! I just left mine overnight so I didn’t check it, but I’ll pay attention to it next time.

  • Thanks Lena – am heading over now to enter the competition. I love the new header btw!

  • That’s the worst part isn’t it, seeing all the make up that rinses out of your brushes when you’re washing them! Argh it makes me feel so gross hahaha! I need to get my hand on that deep cleansing gel!

  • I really need to invest in a proper brush cleaning product! I also LOVE RT! I like that you don’t have to use too much product to get them clean! I use baby shampoo and I feel you have to use heaps to get them fully clean! I will be grabbing this in my next Iherb order!! Thank you! I am also heading over to enter the giveaway!! xxx

  • I’m almost out of the Bossy brush cleaner so I might pick out this Real Techniques one soon. iHerb gave me a $5 too so I think it’s time to make an order. 🙂

  • I feel like I definitely needed a reminder to finally clean my brushes. I don’t use a lot of makeup so I keep on forgetting about it. Sounds like the ideal product to me!! Thanks girl x

I’m sooo debating and putting off washing my brushes, and I have to get it done ASAP because I leave for Sydney Tues! 🙁 This product looks like something I could definitely use in my collection. I usually use a mix of olive oil and then gentle shampoo/conditioner to wash my brush so it’s high time I try out an actual brush cleaner lol 🙂 Great review, now I’ve got to try and get some of this! 🙂 Thanks Lena ! 😛

    • I hope you got around to doing it! I haven’t tried the olive oil thing, I’ve seen people post about it but I’ve worried it’d be hard to wash out!

      • Kershia_CatwalkCult

No – tonight’s task. Hoping the heat helps to dry them fast. I just use a little olive oil to break up all the makeup in there – it works incredibly well. Just washing out the brush a couple times and conditioning and there is no trace of the oil and it’s super soft 🙂

        • Good to know – I might try that some time!

OOps…not olive oil! Coconut oil!! =S

  • This post makes me feel guilty because I am SO slack at washing makeup brushes!! This product looks great. I usually just use liquid soap.
