Pureology Smooth Perfection Hair Care System - Lena Talks Beauty

Whenever I go to the hairdresser, they always exclaim “gosh you’ve got so much hair! wow, you have such thick hair!” I have always had a lot of thick hair, which is great, but with that comes a propensity towards frizziness. I have spent my life in pursuit of the holy grail product that will make my hair a little bit less “Hermione”, seeing as I don’t seem to have magic powers, much to my disappointment. To further complicate matters, I colour my hair blonde which can cause a little bit of damage and therefore, more frizziness.  Then I was sent the Pureology Smooth Perfection hair care system, and that magical moment may have come through at last. I have trialed four products from this range, and have written a full review of it all.

“Hair Care for 72 hours of Anti-Frizz Control and Smoothness

Blow away frizz and heat styling stress with Smooth Perfection anti-frizz haircare products. Made with camellia oil, this lightweight fast-absorbing oil moisturizes and conditions to fight frizzy hair. Combines the best of smoothing, colour care and heat protection for a fast new anti-frizz solution. The Smooth Perfection line has versatile styles to prevent frizz for all hair types
The products that I was given are:
  • Pureology Smooth Perfection Shampoo
  • Pureology Smooth Perfection Conditioner
  • Pureology Smooth Perfection Intense Smoothing Cream
  • Pureology Smooth Perfection Smoothing Serum

Pureology Smooth Perfection Shampoo and Pureology Smooth Perfection Conditioner - Lena Talks Beauty

I’ve been putting these to the test over the last month, because I wanted to be able to give a fair evaluation. The shampoo and conditioner both perform well, cleansing my hair without leaving it feeling stripped or dry. Some hair products can have a bit of a vicious cycle, where the shampoo dries your hair out and then the conditioner is heavily silicone based, which requires a strong shampoo to cut through. With the Pureology Smooth Perfection duo I felt that they were well balanced.

After I wash my hair, I wrap it in a microfiber hair turban while I dry off, get dressed etc, so it soaks up a fair bit of the moisture. Then I use my Tangle Teezer or a wide tooth comb to get out any tangles, and part my hair. I put a generous amount of the Intense Smoothing Cream through my hair, and blow it dry. To make sure I get the underneath part dry, I use a claw clip to separate my hair into layers.  I try to aim the heat down the hair cuticle, but sometimes I’m in a rush and just shoot from underneath. Once my hair is dry, I give it a brush with my GHD Boar Bristle brush, and put in some of the Smoothing Serum.

With this routine, my hair looks smoother and straighter than I’ve ever managed to achieve without using hair straighteners. As I write this, it’s Thursday morning and my hair is still going strong after a Monday night wash and blow dry. That definitely passes the test of the ’72 hours Anti-Frizz Control and Smoothness’ claim that Pureology advertises.  It’s a little bit time consuming compared to air-drying, but it means that I want to wear my hair down. Usually I wear my hair in a bun or ponytail for work, which seems like such a waste considering how much money and time I spend at the hairdressers.

Pureology products are vegan, and are not tested on animals. However, they are owned by L’Oreal which I know is a concern for some cruelty-free shoppers. Personally, I think it’s good to support cruelty-free brands even if they are under a wider umbrella company, because it shows that shoppers are concerned about animal cruelty. Pureology is sold at salons in New Zealand, as well as stores like Shampoo N Things. To find your nearest stockist, visit their website.

  • I’ve never tried this brand but I need something a bit more heavy duty because the bleach has fekked my hair. Will keep an eye out for this x
