During my recent trip to Melbourne, Priceline was having a 40% off cosmetics sale! Priceline is always one of my first stops in Australia, for makeup, skincare, haircare, and basically every product I want to buy. They have a great range of ‘drugstore’ brands, and include quite a few that we don’t have easily accessible in New Zealand. Makeup is generally cheaper in Australia than in NZ, so I was pretty excited by that! I didn’t actually end up buying a huge amount of makeup because my collection is a ridiculous size (I blame blogging for that), but I did get a few things from Australis, L’Oreal, and Maybelline.
L’Oreal Infallible Matte FX lip colour – 002 Virgin
This is a very unusual new formula, and I bought it mostly out of curiosity. Here’s what L’Oreal have to say about it:
Introducing the new generation of matte. The first lip shadow with a pro-designer cushion applicator to design infinite long lasting matte looks. Zero feel, never dry.
The lip colour is applied on this sponge applicator, and it feels mostly dry but with a touch of moisture – it’s unlike any lip product that I have ever tried before. My apologies for how gross it looks on the outside of the tube, it had a big sticker sealing it and now it’s terribly sticky. Does anyone have advice for how to get the goo off?
In this lip swatch, it does look a bit like my lips are terribly dry but I think that’s the nature of an up-close photo. At normal viewing distance it looks much nicer. The matte nature of the L’Oreal Infallible Matte FX lip colour means that it is very long lasting. If I apply it before work, it lasts through to lunch time easily. I like that it fades evenly and doesn’t settle at the edge of my lips like some (cough cough Australis Velourlips) do.
Here is how it looks on me at normal viewing distance:
Australis Banana Powder
When I posted a picture of my haul on Instagram a lot of people asked me “What is banana powder?”. Banana powder is a yellow-toned powder that brightens under eye darkness, or you can use it for highlighting on other parts of the face. Banana powders are common in contouring and highlighting kits that have become super popular in recent years. I got this Australis Banana Powder in hopes of setting my under eye concealer to make myself look more awake in the morning after a night of staying up too late blogging.
Despite being named banana powder, the powder itself isn’t actually as yellow as the name suggests. When applied on my skin, it looks more like a normal face powder. I think it does a good job at cancelling out some of the darkness under my eyes, but I wouldn’t use it to highlight my cheekbones. For highlighting, I’ll stick to products such as my NARS Albatross Highlighting Blush or Benefit High Beam.
Maybelline Color Drama Lip Pencil – 310 Berry Much
I’ve wanted another Maybelline Color Drama lip pencil ever since I got the Fuschia Desire lip pencil about 18 months ago. The formula is creamy and long wearing, which is really the perfect combination. I don’t really consider it to be matte, unless you blot it down with a tissue or something. I chose this shade because we are coming into winter and I love wearing dark lips then, especially when going out at night.
The pencil formula of the Maybelline Color Drama Intense Velvet Lip Pencils is useful for applying neatly, especially around the cupid’s bow. One thing to be aware of is that you will need to have a large pencil sharpener as it gets blunt over time. Since they can be a bit soft, pop it in the freezer for 5 minutes or so before sharpener, so it doesn’t get destroyed by the sharpener.
Here’s how it looks on my lips – by the way, in case you don’t follow me on social media, I changed my hair colour! I feel like I’m back to the old Lena who started this blog all those years ago. The dark berry shade seems to really make my teeth look white.
So there you have it, my long awaited Priceline Cosmetics sale haul post. I promised it’d be up eventually, and it was. Have you tried any of these products? In New Zealand, stockists for the brands mentioned in this post are as follows:
- L’Oreal is available at Farmers and pharmacies
- Maybelline is at Farmers, The Warehouse, Kmart, and pharmacies.
- Australis is at Farmers and Kmart.
