All about eyelash extensions by Mai Beauty Lounge

I have wanted eyelash extensions for years, but had never taken the plunge. My natural lashes are okay, but not amazing. I also loved the idea of always having amazing lashes even when I’m not wearing makeup, especially because I don’t wear it to work most days. Recently I got the opportunity to have a complimentary set of lash extensions from Mai Beauty Lounge. Michelle, the lady behind Mai Beauty Lounge, reached out and offered me a set of lashes in exchange for promotion of her new lash services. After working as a nail technician for years, she recently qualified in the application of eyelash extensions. The lash set she applied on me is gorgeous, and I also learned a lot about how it all works. Keep reading for more about my experience, as well as some important information about eyelash extensions. Too Faced Sweet Peach eyeshadow Palette - Lena Talks Beauty

Too Faced Sweet Peach Eyeshadow Palette

Too Faced’s Sweet Peach Eyeshadow Palette was one of the biggest makeup releases of 2016. It sold out very quickly, but now it’s back! This palette will be available on Tuesday 31st January from Mecca Maxima in New Zealand and Australia. Ahead of it’s release, I was sent it to review and was so excited that I screamed and called one of my friends. I hadn’t owned anything by Too Faced  since it hadn’t been sold in New Zealand until Mecca Maxima opened here late in 2016.  I had swatched a few things at Mecca Maxima in Australia a few years ago, but mostly  just eyed international bloggers with jealousy. Read on to have a closer look at the Too Faced Sweet Peach eyeshadow palette, as well as seeing it in action. Comments comments

Pureology Smooth Perfection Hair Care System - Lena Talks Beauty

Pureology Smooth Perfection hair care system review

Whenever I go to the hairdresser, they always exclaim “gosh you’ve got so much hair! wow, you have such thick hair!” I have always had a lot of thick hair, which is great, but with that comes a propensity towards frizziness. I have spent my life in pursuit of the holy grail product that will make my hair a little bit less “Hermione”, seeing as I don’t seem to have magic powers, much to my disappointment. To further complicate matters, I colour my hair blonde which can cause a little bit of damage and therefore, more frizziness.  Then I was sent the Pureology Smooth Perfection hair care system, and that magical moment may have come through at last. I have trialed four products from this range, and have written a full review of it all. Comments comments

Lena Talks Beauty life update

2016 – a year in review

2016 – what a year! A lot went on, both for me in a personal sense as well as in my blogging capacity. It’s been a wee while since I’ve updated on what’s going on in my life to you all, and I thought with the new year that was a good opportunity to do so. Personal At the start of the year I had to move house which we all know can be very stressful. Compressing my possessions down from a flat’s worth into one bedroom (plus an attic) wasn’t easy, especially for a hoarder like myself. I lived in my old place for 5 years, and everything I own was there. Since my mum lives overseas and my dad is remarried, I don’t have my old room at my parent’s house to store stuff, so EVERYTHING is at my place. For someone with hoarding tendencies this translates to rather a lot of stuff!! It was a good opportunity in down sizing – turns out I don’t need to keep every single birthday card I’ve ever been given, clothes that haven’t fit me in years, and books I haven’t read since high school. My flatmates were strangers I found off Facebook, but I’ve really become part […]

Kylie Cosmetics Dirty Peach Lip Kit by Lena Talks Beauty

Kylie Cosmetics Dirty Peach Lip Kit Review

For Christmas my stepsister Raquel gave me the Kylie Cosmetics Dirty Peach Lip Kit. She asked if I wanted anything when she went to the Kylie pop up shop but I wasn’t sure about what shades there were so I told her to just pick one. She told me that the sales assistant said it was one of their most popular shades, and was versatile for different skin tones. Dirty Peach is a mid-tone yellow peach and it’s unlike any other lipstick shade I have. However, it is still perfectly wearable for my fairly conservative receptionist job. In this post I’ve got a review and swatches of the Kylie Cosmetics Dirty Peach Lip Kit, so keep reading. Comments comments

November and December empties

This post is a combined November/December empties post since I didn’t finish many products during November. There’s also a section of the post which aren’t empty products, but they’ve either expired or somehow earned their space in the bin. I was just going to throw them out, but some of them I had never blogged about and wanted to say my piece. This is a fairly makeup heavy post, but there’s also skincare, nail care, and hair care included in there as well. Comments comments

Kylie Jenner Shop

Inside the Kylie Jenner Pop Up Shop

Kylie Jenner has a pop up shop open for the holiday period, and Lena Talks Beauty’s Los Angeles correspondent visited to report back about the experience. By Los Angeles correspondent, I mean my stepsister Raquel. She’s a flight attendant who flies between Los Angeles and Brisbane on a weekly basis, and her LA base is near to the mall where the Kylie Jenner Pop Up Shop is located – how convenient! I’m not really the biggest Kylie Jenner fan, I’m more into the older Kardashians, but being in the beauty industry means I’ve followed her influence on makeup trends. I have tried a few of my friends Kylie Cosmetics liquid lipsticks which made me really want some so I was  excited for Raquel’s visit to the store. The store sells the Kylie Cosmetics range, as well as clothing and accessories. Comments comments

colourpop - lena talks beauty

Colourpop haul – review & swatches

Colourpop took the makeup world by storm a couple of years ago and has been going strong ever since. I had been put off by their expensive international shipping, but when I saw they had free international shipping with a spend of $50 I knew it was time to pull the trigger. I bought things from several of their different categories so I could really get to know what their products were like. I ordered two lip pencils, an ultra satin liquid lipstick, a lippie stix, an eyeshadow, and a blush. Shipping was reasonably fast, I ordered late at night on the 15th of November and it travelled all the way from Colourpop in LA to  New Zealand by the 24th of November. Keep reading for swatches, reviews, and pictures of these Colourpop goodies on my face. Comments comments

Essence Cosmetics Summer 2016 releases

Essence Cosmetics is a relative newcomer to the New Zealand makeup scene, and I’ve been a big fan ever since their launch. Essence releases new products all throughout the year which keeps the range fresh and up with current trends. They recently sent me a huge bundle of products, as you may have seen on my instagram and I decided to put them all on my face. Well, not all at once – that would be ridiculous! What I did was a full face look using all Essence products, and I’ll give a quick rundown on my thoughts of each item. Let’s start with the first product I applied which is Camouflage 2 in 1 makeup and concealer – 10 Ivory beige. It claims that it will give long lasting, high coverage to hide all imperfections and provide a matte and flawless finish without a mask-like effect. That seemed like a pretty big claim to me, so I put it to the test. To be honest I didn’t find the coverage particularly high – I have others that give much more coverage. I built it up as a concealer on the parts of my face that have the most  blemishes but I still wasn’t […]
