October Empties – Makeup

I’m back with part two of my October Empties, and this time it’s all of the makeup products that I finished or decided to throw out during October. I did some spring cleaning when I organised my makeup storage  so a fair few of these aren’t actual empties in the truest sense, but it’s nice to have a chance to do a quick review of things that wouldn’t actually be worth a full post. For some reason it’s mainly face products, probably since I’m so fussy about having them be right for my skin type and colour.October Empties - Makeup. Phoenix Cosmetics Foundation
I can’t believe I didn’t throw this out 2 years ago. I hated it so much I got my money back. It’s supposed to be a custom match but even after two trips back it wasn’t great.

Nude by Nature Natural Tinted Mineral Moisturiser
The product is fine but it’s not actually a great colour match for me. I’m not sure what they mean by ‘natural sunscreen protection’ since it doesn’t actually list an SPF.

Clinique CC Cream sample
This is why brands should be generous with giving samples – I got this sample pot at a counter, and I ended up buying one when I normally wouldn’t have spent so much on a CC/BB cream. So many counter staff act like you’re asking for a vial of their blood when you ask for a sample of something, when they should realise that customers don’t want to buy blind, or with just a swatch on your hand!

Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation Sample
On the other side, I didn’t end up buying this because it didn’t work for me – but it wouldn’t have cost them that much! I think it’s too matte for my skin. I reviewed it last year when I originally got it, and in that post I felt pretty positive about it but further wears showed it wasn’t quire right for me.

Bare Minerals Correcting Concealer SPF 20
This is a really good concealer, nice and creamy…but when was I ever this tan?! It’s shade medium 1 and I usually am in the light range.

Oasis BB Cream The Monroe Sample
I love Oasis Beauty, but this wasn’t the right shade for me – too warm. I think The Bardot would be better for me.

Clinique Almost Powder Makeup 02 neutral fair
I didn’t have this for very long before it got smashed to smithereens in my handbag. I tried a pinterest tutorial with my ex to fix it (that’s how long ago this was, like a year or more ago), but sadly it wasn’t that successful. I could try again, but I have other powders and I’m lazy, so into the bin.

Dried up old liquid eyeliner
I don’t even recall buying this, I think it may have been in high school. What a good thing I’ve kept it all these years!

XO Beauty The Innocent False lashes
I really liked these lashes but the last time I wore them I ruined one by getting glue all over it, so time for them to be retired. They’re quite cheap, under $10, So I’m not too upset about having to replace them!

Stila In The Light eyeshadow palette sample
I got this in a Sephora order probably 2-3 years ago and haven’t really used it. Picking the powder up on a brush wasn’t easy, and I have plenty of other shadows and palettes that are easier. The real palette looks much better! If I didn’t already have so many shadows in that colour range I think I might buy it.

I can’t believe I had over 20 empties during October! To read about my skincare, nails, and hair product empties, click here.  At the time of writing this I already have a couple of products set aside as November empties, so keep an eye out for that in another few weeks.

Have you tried any of these products? What did you think of them?

  • It always feels good to have a clean out, even when they’re not quite finished!

I keep wondering what I was thinking when I got my foundations too as some are so dark! Haha

    • It’s nice to have some more space in my drawers! I clearly used to be terrible at choosing foundation colours, it’s a tricky art/science!

  • I’m using the oasis BB cream and I really like it. I’m such a fan of BB cream, great for lazy make up people like me haha! Have yet to try a cc cream – what would you prefer BB or CC?

    • I have another sample of the paler shade I’m going to try! I use Clinique CC Cream and like it a lot. I’m honestly nt sure what the difference between the two is other than the name, they all seem to use the same function to me!

  • Emma

That’s disappointing you didn’t like the foundation; I’ve been wanting to try it. What was it that made it bad for you?

    • They just didn’t seem to be able to get a good match for me, it was always too orange. They have quite dim mood lighting in the shop I went to so that didn’t help. I know other people who really love theirs though.

  • Omg that’s heaps! 😃 have you ever used Asian bb or cc creams? I swear they are amazing, Im very biased to them now, plus the packaging can be super cute too

    • I have used one from Za but wasn’t crazy about it. I have some more samples of them but I haven’t actually tried them yet! I’ve always heard they’re awesome though.
