October Empties – hair, skin, body products

Monday, November 7th 2016 Makeup

Another month, another round of empties. I’ve been making a concerted effort to finish products, especially some of my many sample sachets that I’ve been hoarding for years. 13 different products isn’t a bad effort in my book. They were mostly skin and body care products, with a few haircare products, and one makeup item rounding out the group. The brands featured include Paula’s Choice, Neutrogena, Maybelline, Lush, and Vaseline. Let’s crack into it!

Paula’s Choice Skin Recovery Hydrating Treatment Mask

This isn’t a mask in the traditional sense, because you don’t have to wash it off. You can, but every time I used it I left it on overnight. It leaves my skin really nicely hydrated and isn’t greasy either.

Repurchase? Maybe, but I have Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight mask which is quite similar.

L’Oreal Skin Perfection Correcting Day Moisturiser

I quite liked this, it left my skin feeling really smooth and it was perfect under makeup. I don’t usually bother with primer but this seemed to function as a primer very nicely. It says that it minimises pores but mine aren’t really noticeable anyway so I can’t comment on how effective it is in that regard.

Repurchase? I don’t think so, it wasn’t particularly special.

Essenzza Natural Japanese Silk Facial Treatment Mask – Citrus & Pineapple Enzymes

I love a good sheet mask, and fruit enzymes are good at encouraging cell turnover as well. Sheet masks are awesome for hydration, and the added benefits are just a bonus. I got this in a Lust Have It subscription bag a while ago, so I’m not sure where you can actually buy them from.

Repurchase? I already have a lottttt of sheet masks, so no.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel

I really really liked this. I used to use the SPF version for a long time, and have also used the Neutrogena Hydro Boost sheet masks in the past as well.

Repurchase? Probably the SPF version.

Maybelline Dream Pure BB Cream For Oily Skin Light

This isn’t an empty, more a ‘this has been sitting in a drawer for years unused’ type thing. I really liked this and I remember singing its praises when I got it, but then I got into beauty blogging and ended up with an enormous makeup collection so it got forgotten about. From memory it was pretty good coverage,  and the colour suited my NW20 skin well

Repurchase? Probably not but I’d recommend it for a cheap BB cream.

Lush Jasmine and Henna Fluff-Eaze Hair Treatment

I’ve written about this a million times in the last few months, so I’ll keep it short: A++ would buy again.

Batiste Dry Shampoo Floral & Fruity Blush

I am a Batiste devotee, so this is essential for travelling or popping into my bag if I’m going out somewhere after work.

Repurchase? Yes! I’m surprised I haven’t done it already actually.

Schwarzkopf Extra Care Hair Repair BB 11 in 1 Hair Beautifier

The idea of a hair BB cream made me laugh, but I enjoyed using this. I’m not sure how much repairing it did, but I ca attest to the beautifying. I mostly put it in when my hair was feeling a bit wild, and it tamed the frizz nicely.

Repurchase? If I didn’t have 1 million other similar products.

Davines Minu Shampoo & Momo Conditioner

I got these samples in my goodie bag at NZ Fashion Weekend, and was quite excited as I had heard great things about the brand. My hair felt amazing after using these. I also liked the novelty that they are coloured to match!

Repurchase? Depends how much it costs!

Vaseline Intensive Care Healthy Hands Nails Strengthening

The jury’s still out on whether this actually strengthens nails BUT it smells nice and feels nice. My friend Victoria and I both always use it and we have great nails so that’s some anecdata for you. Plus it’s pink so that’s a bonus in my book.

Repurchase? Yes, I’ve been meaning to, and having to make do with inadequate substitutes in the mean time.

Palmer’s Coconut Oil Body Lotion x2

More samples from NZ Fashion Weekend, and Chicks at The Flicks! I’ve used Palmer’s Cocoa Butter for years, as well as their self tanner, so was keen to try this. It was a more easily absorbing formula, unlike the cocoa butter which is quite thick.

Repurchase? Would definitely consider!

Home Essentials Acetone

Since moving in with a beauty therapist I’ve had gel manicures more often than not, so have been churning through the Acetone. I want to buy it in bulk but the guy at Mitre 10 says you can’t because it’s used to make meth or something??? Can anyone else fill me in one this?

Repurchase? Already have!

Kmart Green Tea Facial Wipes

I’m not crazy about these on the face but I keep them around to wipe swatches off when I’m taking blog photos, or wipe off products so they look nice for photos. Or when I inevitably get makeup on my clothes as I’m getting ready. For that, they are excellent! Especially for $3.

Repurchase? I sure will, on my next Kmart visit.

So that’s everything! I’m impressed with how many I managed to finish. I’ve still got many more sample to get through so I will hopefully have a bumper crop for next month too.

Have you used any of these products? What were your thoughts about them?
