NYX Professional Makeup is a brand I have been loving for years and writing about since the early days of this blog. A NYX primer featured in my very first blog post back in April 2014! That’s why I was super stoked to be invited to an event held by NYX recently where we got glammed up, learned a bit more about the new releases, and left with some goodies to try. I’ve given them a road test, and today I have a review to share about these new products from NYX Professional Makeup.
NYX Strobe of Genius Illuminating Palette
Strobing is a trend that kind of passed me by but an easy way to explain it is ‘contouring but just the highlighting part, not the darker shades’. I liked this because I’m not crazy about the idea of trying to make my face look slimmer with makeup. The Strobe of Genius Illuminating palette has seven different shades which can be used separately or layered together. In this look, I used the bottom right shade along my cheekbones. The packaging is study, and doesn’t waste spaces with little sponges or brushes that I would never use. I’m quite intrigued about the lavender shade, I’ll have to give that one a whirl at a later date.
NYX NoFilter Finishing Powder and Duo Chromatic Illuminating Powder
#NoFilter is not a hashtag that I ever use because I LOVE a good filter, but nonetheless I wanted to try this powder. I wore shade 10 Classic Tan in the No Filter Finishing Powder. In retrospect using this was probably a mistake, as my skin is pretty dry and I typically do not use powder. The formula seemed nice, and I was happy with how it looked when I applied it, but over the day my foundation just didn’t sit well. I think I will stick to using my NYX Dewy Setting Spray as it’s more appropriate for my skin type.
The Duo Chromatic Illuminating Powder has an interesting name, as I’d say this is more of a blush than an illuminator. Perhaps it’s because of the specific shade I used which was 03 Crushed Bloom. Crushed Bloom is a nice pinky colour which I think suited my skin tone well.
NYX Cosmic Metals Shadow Palette
Shimmery eyeshadows are my preferred option, so I was very keen for this palette. I like that it contains 6 versatile shades in such a compact palette. It’s perfect for slipping into my makeup bag when I’m on the run. I seem to be constantly going from work to social events and having to do a quick transformation in the loo or in my car!
The shadows didn’t perform well with brushes, but when I used my finger the pigment showed up much better! I applied with my fingers and then used a brush to blend at the edges. For this look I applied the top left shadow and the bottom left too.
NYX Lip Lingerie
Lip Lingerie is a product which I had heard a lot about online, but hadn’t actually tried for myself. My experiments with matte liquid lipsticks have been chronicled here on Lena Talks Beauty over the years, with both hits and misses. This rates pretty highly – it was comfortable to wear, didn’t sit in lip lines, and lasted surprisingly well when eating and drinking.
I was pretty unsure about the colour but my friend was very encouraging and I’m glad she did! Typically I stick to the red and pink spectrum for lip colours but it’s good to get out of that comfort zone. I used to be scared to even wear bright red lipstick and now it’s one of my go-tos.
