November and December empties

This post is a combined November/December empties post since I didn’t finish many products during November. There’s also a section of the post which aren’t empty products, but they’ve either expired or somehow earned their space in the bin. I was just going to throw them out, but some of them I had never blogged about and wanted to say my piece. This is a fairly makeup heavy post, but there’s also skincare, nail care, and hair care included in there as well.

Simple makeup remover wipes, burts bees cuticle butter, lush daddy o, living nature lip balm, benecos cuticle oil, palmer's night cream

Benecos natural nail care pen

Cuticle oil in a pen format is a genius idea. It makes cuticle oil portable and easy to apply, so I used it so much more often. I have really noticed an improvement in my nails since using this regularly. Repurchase? I’ll definitely put one in my next iHerb order.

Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream*

Another cuticle care essential that was mentioned in my guide to nail and cuticle care. I have had this at my desk all year and finally finished it, which I felt quite proud about.

Repurchase? Perhaps, once I’ve finished my Nail Juice cuticle butter.

Palmer’s Cocoa Butter formula moisture rich night cream

I have been trying to finish up some more samples, so I used this up recently. I wasn’t really crazy about it, but it wasn’t terrible. If I wanted to use retinol I would just get a dedicated product that would surely be more effective.

Repurchase? No.

Living Nature Lip Hydrator

Finishing a lip balm is a real achievement for me, I usually lose them or move on to brighter pastures before they’re done.  The texture of this is nice and moisturising, and I don’t feel like my lips became ‘dependent’ on it like some balms with camphor (looking at you, horrible Carmex).

Repurchase? If I didn’t have 8000 other lip balms already.

Simple Kind to Skin Cleansing Facial wipes

I come back to these facial wipes time and time again, and for good reason. They remove all my makeup and leave my skin feeling nice, never stinging my eyes or skin.

Repurchase? Already have.

Lush Daddy-O Shampoo

I mentioned this briefly in my post about Lush Tangle hot oil hair treatment, as I was given this sample with that purchase. I liked how it made my hair feel and look, as opposed to the dry feeling I get from my current purple shampoo.

Repurchase? Probably. I’m not sure if I should try and make myself finish my Fudge purple shampoo or if I should cut my losses.

Cetpahil daily cleanser, trilogy gentle exfoliant, health basics nail polish remover - lenatalksbeauty

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser

This is something I have been using for over a decade now. In fact, Cetaphil even featured in my very first empties post over two years ago! That’s how long it took me to finish this, so I’m quite proud of my dedication. I have been cheating on Cetaphil with the others that I get sent but it’s the only one I buy.

Repurchase? I want to try and finish some more first, but I’m sure I will.

Trilogy Gentle Facial Exfoliant*

I feel like I’ve been banging on about this a lot lately, but as I said in my post about the best exfoliants without microbeads, this is top notch.

Repurchase? Once I’ve used up some more, but I’m sure I will.

Health Basics Nail Polish Remover

This is my go-to nail polish remover. I’ve tried others over the years, just for the fun of it, or out of desperation, but I always come back to it. It takes polish off so well, even glitter! I always pick acetone formula because they get polish off quicker. It can be a bit harsh on the nails and skin but as long as you look after them the rest of the time, a bit of acetone isn’t the end of the world. I just make sure to wash my hands after and follow up with a cuticle oil.

Repurchase? I already have.

Stila Lip Glaze, Australis Velourlips, Napoleon Perdis lip gloss - Lena Talks Beauty
Technically not empties

Stila Lip Glaze x3

Okay, so these technically aren’t empty but they’re going in the bin so it’s worth including. I bought these from Sephora in LA when I was there in 2012, so it’s definitely time for them to be retired. I don’t wear lip gloss that often these days, and I have plenty of others. I did like the formula, it wasn’t too sticky and the colours were nice.

Repurchase? No, rarely wear lip gloss

Napoleon Perdis Lip Gloss

This was a gift with purchase with a magazine about 3 years ago, along with a couple of other Napoleon Perdis items. It was quite nice but from the smell of it it’s time to say goodbye.

Repurchase? I might, but Napoleon isn’t even sold in NZ any more so I don’t really have the option!

Australis Velourlips Mi-A-Mee

I slated this in my original review of it, and my feelings have not really changed. In the years since I’ve tried other matte liquid lipsticks and the formula is SO much better. Mind you, the price reflects it. Some people do love these, including my friend Jessica who has lots of other expensive makeup so maybe it’s just me.

Repurchase? No way

Essence face powder, Za brow liner, za liquid eyeliner, the balm schwing liquid eyeliner - lena talks beauty

Za Brow Liner*

I was sent this a couple of years ago, and the shade was just never quite right, despite the various hair colours I’ve had over those years. Time to say goodbye.

Za Liquid Eyeliner*

I’m actually so sad about this. It’s my favourite liquid eyeliner, but I mangled the brush putting the cap back on and it’s never been the same since.

Repurchase? Probably once I finish one of my other ones. Look at me, being all minimalist!

The Balm Schwing Liquid Eyeliner

This eyeliner outlived my last relationship by far, which is rather sad haha. It still seems fine but I realise I’m playing with fire in terms of eye infections, and considering I have others, best to just say goodbye.

Repurchase? Perhaps. I liked it, but I liked the Za one too and it’s cheaper.

Sephora Brown/Black eyeliner pencil

This eyeliner dates back to the same USA trip as the Stila lip glazes, and I’ve finally got it down to nubs. I’m quite proud of my effort really.

Repurchase? If I needed one.

Essence powder*

This has been my handbag powder for quite a while now, but it died an untimely death, sadly. You can repress powders but I’ve never had a huge amount of success with that, and for the cost it’s not really worth it.

Repurchase? Possibly, if I needed another powder. Would definitely recommend it.

Phew, that was a long one! If you made it to the end, congratulations. You are now informed about my thoughts on a large number of beauty products. If you’ve tried any of these, leave a comment below – I love finding out what other people think of products that I’ve tried. Or if you have also written an empties post, leave me a link. I always find it interesting to read people’s empties post.

Haha, I think we have some differing views, I really don’t like the Simple face wipes, and I love the Australis Velourlips! Go figure… lol
