MUA for a day with Jordanne

Last weekend, my friend Jordanne from Jordanne Leigh  and I played makeup artist for the day, and did each other’s makeup. It was a great afternoon, with many cups of tea consumed, me cuddling her baby extensively, and then we got down to business. I really enjoyed being able to see all of her products, many of which I had never tried before. I’ve done other people’s makeup on a handful of occasions, but it’s always a challenge. Here is the beautiful finished result, and then I’ll go through what I used and how I applied it, to get the look that Jordanne is wearing.

Looking through Jordanne’s collection was a bit like being at a fancy department store, except I felt much more comfortable! Her tastes tend toward the higher end, helped by the fact the job she’s currently on maternity leave from meant she frequently travelled overseas where makeup is much cheaper. Her collection includes products from brands I hadn’t tried much from, such as Make Up For Ever and Kat Von D, so I made good use of them

I didn’t have a specific plan in mind for her makeup look, I made it up as I went along and explored the different products that she has. Her skin is beautiful, and I wanted to emphasise that with a flawless base.

I used the following products for her base, and I’ll link to where to buy them where I can as many of them aren’t available in NZ stores.:

contouring with kat von d shade and light paletteI had never attempted contouring before, but with the Kat Von D Shade and Light palette, and the NARS Ita brush I think I did a good job with it. At first it was a bit of a brown stripe, but nothing some blending couldn’t fix. This makes me want to try contouring on myself.

For her eyes:

    • MAC Paint Pot – Painterly I had seen and heard so much about this, and I see why it has that fame
    • Makeup Geek eyeshadows – Burlesque and Bitten
    • Anastasia Beverly Hills Maya Mia eyeshadow palette – Glisten shadow
    • Kat Von D Tattoo Liner – Trooper
    • Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade – Medium Brown
    • Clinique High Impact Mascara – 01 Black This is a lovely mascara, but my application of it really left something to be desired

Uh oh!

I was particularly excited to have the chance to use some of her Colourpop products – on her lips is the Colorpop Lippie Stix – Frida (satin finish). The Lippie Stix are so lovely I can forgive their ridiculous name. Along with using Jordanne’s makeup, I liked having the opportunity to use her brushes. They are primarily from Zoeva, XO Beauty and MAC, so quite a different range to mine. The Zoeva brushes are incredible, and I now see why everyone raves about the MAC 217 brush for eyeshadow blending.

It was really fun exploring Jordanne’s makeup collection, and applying makeup on her. I’ve only done other people’s makeup a handful of times, such as on my Mum and on Caitlin. I may have been a bit ambitious applying liquid eyeliner on her, and I really didn’t think that mascara would be that hard! I can’t see myself quitting my day job to become a makeup artist any time soon.

I adored the makeup that Jordanne did on me – it was different to how I would usually apply it, and yet, looked really great. I’m going to try and start doing my eyebrows how she did them. To read about this makeup look, head over to her blog
