March and April empties

This post combines my empties from March and April, since I didn’t get the chance to write a post at the end of March. I finished or decided to throw away 9 different items over those two months, from makeup to skincare, haircare, body and more. The empties are from Models Prefer, Essence, Real Techniques, Za, La Roche-Posay, and Lush. Get ready for a long post, because I have a lot to say about them – maybe make yourself a cup of tea, I’ll be waiting right here.

Models Prefer Mineral Powder Foundation – Medium 02

I like to have a mineral powder foundation on hand for making myself look a bit more put together without all of the effort of actually applying foundation. Sometimes I apply this on top of my CC cream, and other times just on top of bare skin or moisturiser. This container is terrible though, having a mirror in the lid means you can’t easily dispense the powder into the lid like with Bare Minerals or similar. I actually transferred the powder into a container from Daiso.

Repurchase? For sure, I’ll ask mum to bring some over or buy some on my next visit to Australia since it’s not stocked here

Essence Lash Princess Mascara*

I wrote about this mascara when Essence launched in New Zealand early in 2015, and you can see pictures of it in use here. I have used this Essence mascara fairly regularly since then, because I like the curved wand. However, the other day I used it and it was terribly clumpy, so it was time to be retired. It gives good volume and average length, so if you already have long lashes you’ll probably like this. Like everything by Essence, it’s cheap, only $7.45.

Repurchase?  Possibly, but there are other mascaras that I like better

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge

Makeup sponges have become so much more advanced in recent years, and for the last 18 months or so I’ve been using this Real Techniques sponge regularly to apply foundation. I’ve used it with all sorts of different foundations, from liquid to almost mousse textures, and it has always given a great finish to my skin. Despite fairly diligent cleaning, it is pretty stained and starting to tear so I picked up another one from iHerb since it’s only $5.99 USD.

Repurchase? I already have.

Skincare

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo+, Za True White Day Cream, Za True White Cleansing Foam - Lena Talks Beauty

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo+

I bought Effaclar Duo+ mostly because of hype, I’d heard so much about it that I couldn’t not buy it. Luckily for me, I actually really liked using it. In my post about my daily skincare routine, I go into more detail about it, but a summary is that it’s good for keeping my pimples under control.

Repurchase? I already have.

Za True White Day Cream*

Asian brands like Za are really at the forefront of sunscreen innovation, with this day cream including SPf20 and PA++ UVA protection. It’s a cosmetically elegant formula, easily absorbing into my skin. This was great to have in my suitcase on my recent trip to Melbourne.

Repurchase? Yes, I’d like to one day.

Za True White Cleansing Foam*

I really liked this cleanser, however I was extremely disappointed to find that it includes plastic microbeads. Microbeads are an environmental hazard so I try to avoid using anything with them, however since this was a mini size it didn’t have an ingredients list and just said ‘vitamin c granules’. If you want to know more about microbeads, including how to spot them on an ingredients list, read my post Your Microbead Exfoliator is Polluting The Ocean.

Repurchase? Absolutely not.

Lush Snow Fairy Shower Gel, Lush Jasmine and Henna fluff-ease hair treatment, Lush Popcorn lip scrub - Lena Talks Beauty

Lush Jasmine and Henna Fluff-Ease Hair Treatment

Since discovering that you can get samples at Lush, my life has changed! That might be an exaggeration, but being able to get samples at shops is so great. I so often end up buying things I’ve sampled, which is a win for me, and a win for the company. My friend Charlotte and I both got samples of  Lush Jasmine and Henna Fluff-Ease Hair Treatment, and we both bought the full size jar. Using this treatment makes such a big difference to the appearance and texture of my hair, plus it smells absolutely incredible.

Repurchase? Have bought the full size.

Lush Popcorn Lip Scrub

I bought this on a whim, and I loved with when I first got it – as seen in this post A Look at Lush. However, I mostly just forgot to use it. It’s well past it’s expiry date, so it’s time to say goodbye.

Repurchase? No, I wouldn’t use it

Lush Snow Fairy Shower Gel

At the end of last year everyone was going crazy for Snow Fairy! I had to see what all the fuss was about, so I bought this bottle. Now I totally get why people are so crazy about it, because it smells so great. It also leaves a faint shimmer on your skin, much to my brother’s disgust when he had to borrow it once hehe. I wish I had bought the largest size available which is 500g, or even the 250g – this is just a little baby at 100g.

Repurchase? Absolutely, looking forward to Christmas for this.

Lush Snow Fairy, La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo+, Za True White Day Cream and more - March and April empties | Lena Talks Beauty

Things around here have been crazy for the last few months, with looking for a new flat, moving out of my old place, and tying up all the loose ends, as well as a trip to Melbourne in the middle of it! The end is in sight though, and I should be back to more regular postings soon – thanks for sticking through it with me.

Have you tried any of these products – if so, what do you think of them?
