March and April was a bumper month for empties, particularly on the skincare front. Some of that was because I threw out some products that I wasn’t crazy about, and others was because of I have been trying to only use one product from each category at a time. My friend Victoria does that and her good habits have been rubbing off on me and stopping me from turning into someone on Hoarders. This post includes brands such as Simple, Garnier, Neutrogena, Schwarzkopf, Goodness, Palmer’s, La Roche Posay and more!
Simple Kind to Skin Cleansing Water*
I blogged about this when I originally got it like 2 years ago, and my feelings are much the same. It removes my makeup, which is good because that’s it’s job.
Repurchase? Maybe, I’d pick between this and Garnier based on price.
Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water*
This is the second bottle of this that I have finished, I usually keep it on my bedside table with a little jar of cotton pads for when I’m too lazy to use an oil or balm cleanser and actually wash my face properly. It says you don’t need to rinse but I always like the feeling on my skin better when I do.
Repurchase? I’ve already been sent another, but yes I would
Neutrogena Make-up Remover Cleansing Towelettes
I got these in a goodie bag at some event, and I quite liked them. Did the trick, didn’t sting my eyes which is basically all I ask for.
Repurchase? I still like the Simple ones better.
Skin & Hair
Formula 10.0.6 Bye Bye Blackheads Pore Strips*
You might find it hard to believe but I had never used a pore strip before. I don’t usually feel like blackheads are an issue for me, but I wanted to try it anyway. I also got one of my guy friends to try it with me, since he says he has issues with blackheads. Unfortunately, it didn’t really do anything for either of us.
Repurchase? No. I don’t even think I’ll finish the box.
Neutrogena Hydro Boost Mask*
These have featured on here a few times before, and the tl;dr is I like them and hyaluronic acid is the bomb.
Repurchase? Once I finish my extensive collection of sheet masks.
Goodness Certified Organic Chia Seed Oil*
I really loved this when I got it, then I got caught up with other things, such is the life of a beauty blogger. By the time I came back to it, I think it had expired. I do recommend it that’s for sure, and the whole Goodness range.
Repurchase? Yes, I would.
Schwarzkopf BB 11 in 1 Hair Beautifier
This was stolen from my mother so I hope she doesn’t read this post! I put it in my hair when it’s wet after washing, and it helped it dry naturally so nicely. I’ve had a whole bunch of sample sachets of this over the years too, I swear they were like breeding! I’m not entirely sure about the 11 different benefits but I liked it.
Repurchase? Maybe once I’ve finished some other similar products.
La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo+
This is raved about so much by beauty bloggers, especially British beauty bloggers, so I felt obliged to buy it. This is my second tube, because I am nothing if not optimistic and persistent when it comes to skincare. But I really didn’t feel like it did anything for me. I think my skin needs something stronger.
Skinfood SPF 15 Moisturiser
Technically this isn’t an empty, but it is something that I’m throwing out because I hated it. It uses Zinc Oxide as the sunscreen and that made it so white and greasy – not at all good for wearing under makeup. The texture made me want to apply a minimal amount, which meant I wasn’t getting the true protection.
Repurchase? I’d rather get burned.
Za True White Power Block UV*
I liked this sunscreen SO much. There is a recent why Asian sunscreens have the reputation for being more cosmetically elegant than Western sunscreens. It dried matte and smooth, and was great for wearing under makeup or alone. Za is relatively inexpensive too, and easily available in New Zealand which is nice.
Repurchase? Yes I definitely will.
Trilogy Ultra Hydrating Face Cream*
Trilogy has long been one of my favourite skincare brands, even before they started sending me products. I squeezed every drop out of this tube because I liked it so much. I applied it at night and it left my skin feeling moisturised right through to the next morning. It wouldn’t be a good one to use in the morning or underneath makeup but perfect for evenings.
Repurchase? Probably once I’ve finished some of the other products in my stash.
Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula
I bought this optimistically hoping it would fix the stretch marks that I am c-o-v-e-r-e-d in. I know in my scientific heart that stretch marks are too deep in the skin to be repaired by topical skincare but a girl can hope. Spoiler alert, it didn’t do anything for them. It made my skin nice and moisturised but that is all. I particularly liked it on the rare occasions where I shave my legs.
Repurchase? Once I finish some more of my stash.
Giovanni Cool Mint Lemonade Salt Scrub
This was a bit of a let down, and a particular disappointment after I loved the Giovanni Hot Chocolate Sugar scrub so much. I really had to force myself to finish it towards the end. It left my skin with a bit of a weird film on it, and the smell was over powering.
Repurchase? I’ll go for the Hot Chocolate instead.
Scholl Hard Skin Softening Cream
Another optimistic purchase, lured in by the reduced section at the supermarket. I think this would have worked if I was more diligent about applying it regularly but I wasn’t. It does have promising ingredients in terms of chemical exfoliants, but I think I’d rather just use another foot peeling mask.
Repurchase? Probably not
Lush Snow Fairy Shower Gel
Snow Fairy is such a nice Christmas treat – I buy myself a bottle every year. I wish I had bought an even bigger bottle for all year round deliciousness. It smells like candy floss and I just love it!
Madre Labs Unscented Hand Cream
I make sure to pop one of these in every order I make from iHerb – it’s super cheap and always good for my hands
Repurchase? For sure.
Empty products = 16. Total for 2017 = 32. Well done me! It feels so good to get these products used up, and work on finishing some more.
Have you tried any of these? What are your thoughts? I’d love to hear what you think!
