Makeup Obsessives meet up

In 2013, I joined a Facebook group that would change my life. That sounds slightly dramatic, but really, it’s true. I joined Makeup Obsessives, and went from someone with a mild interest in makeup, to a full on obsessive. The group started small, but now it has 30 000 members which is incredible – but it still feels like a cosy family that is super supportive and amazing. People say sometimes that women who are interested in typically girly things, especially makeup, are vapid, and bitchy, but I haven’t found that to be the case with MUO.

Of course, I’ve had the odd clash with someone but that’s bound to happen with so many people – but the admins manage to keep things running smoothly. Recently a meet up for the group was held in Auckland, and I headed along. This was my fourth meet up, and as always it was great. Even at my first meet up when I had never met anyone else, I felt really welcomed and like part of the group. Today’s post is a bit of a long one, but it’s a goodie – all about the great event, and of course, the makeup that I wore.

When I arrived to the venue, I was greeted by the lovely Nicola, one of the admins and also the lady behind Blush Baby which is where I got a great manicure recently. Nicola gave me my name tag, and a goodie bag heaving with products. I’ll note here that we paid around $20 to attend, but we received hundreds of dollars worth of products and vouchers – plus the use of the space at the bar, which is great value. I sat down with my friend Meagan, and we went through our goodie bags, and were totally overwhelmed by the sheer number things in them.

It was great to meet Tara and Ellen, who have the blog/youtube channel Shop Style Conquer – I’d been reading and watching them for a while, and had chatted with them on twitter, but meeting in person is always cool. One thing I find funny about MUO meet ups is the typical ‘what lipstick are you wearing?’ question and people going around a table taking turns to answer, while others note the shades for future purchases! It always seems to happen which is cool. I mainly hung out with fellow bloggers – not really intentional, but it was fun catching up with Morgan from Hyacinth Girl, Maddy from Madicattt, Meagan from This Is Meagan Kerr, and of course Kirsty who runs the MUO group and also has the Makeup Obsessives blog. There were easily around 100 people there – can you spot me in the group photo?

Choosing what makeup to wear to a meetup is always a big decision! It was a sweltering day, so I made sure to use products that would last the whole day and into the evening since I was meeting someone later on too. My base products were:

– NYX Photo ready anti-redness primer
– MAC Pro Longwear Concealer NW20
– MAC Studio Sculpt Foundation NW20
The Cosmetic Kitchen Raw Cacao Blush (it’s an Australian mineral makeup brand I got in a Lust Have It bag).
– NARS Albatross Highlighting Blush (blog post here)
– Bourjois Healthy Balance Unifying Powder – 55 Dark Beige (perhaps a touch too dark, but works for summer)

On my eyes, I wore:

– Darling Girl Glitter Glue (blog post here – this stuff is utterly magical)
– Shiro Cosmetics Climbing Chaos eyeshadow (blog post here)
– Bobbi Brown Gel Eyeliner – 7 Espresso Ink
– Maybelline The Colossal mascara
– Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade (blog post here)

On my lips I wore Karen Murrell Coral Dawn, and I finished the whole look off with my NYX Dewy Finish setting spray, which I have sung the praises of previously.

I want to say a HUGE thank you to Kirsty and the rest of the MUO admin team for running the group and these amazing events. Also, a huge thank you to all of the sponsors who provide so many products for all of us – it’s incredibly generous! If you’re in MUO, and have never attended a meet up – you should definitely try to get along to one, they are so fun. And if you aren’t in MUO – join! There’s a waitlist since the group has a maximum capacity, but i’m sure the wait will be worth it!
