One of my best friends, Caitlin, is going overseas for a while so she downsized some of her lipstick collection, and I was the one who benefited! Of course, I fully sanitised them before use so please don’t think I’m gross. Some of them are ones I had seen her wear and loved, and others I wasn’t quite sure about, but I was excited nonetheless. I spent a pretty fun afternoon swatching and trying most of them on, all for you, dear readers.
From left to right –
- Maybelline New York Colorsensational – 310 Mochachino
- L’Oreal Paris Color Riche Intense – 290 Plum Passion
- MAC Amplified Creme – Chatter Box
- MAC Amplified – Show Orchid
- MAC Matte – Russian Red
- Maybelline New York Colorsensational – 906 Hot Plum
- Ka’oir – Gorgeous
Maybelline’s Mochachino was the one that I was the most unsure about – I’d never worn a brown lipstick before and I was SURE it’d look terrible on me. To my great pleasure and surprise, it actually looked pretty good. What do you guys think? I don’t even have any other makeup on in this pic because I wasn’t really planning on taking pictures of them on my face but oh well.
Next up we have three MAC lipsticks, one of which I had put on Caitlin that time we played makeup artists. I had been considering buying Chatterbox for that reason, so I’m glad I now own it.
I wore Russian Red over the weekend, and it wears really well. It did transfer some, as any lipstick does, but it only needed to be touched up once over about 8 hours of extensive eating and drinking which I consider very impressive. The pictures are from the A Beautiful Mess app which I have been (over)using a lot lately, and the floral headband is from Equip – it was a garden party so it seemed appropriate. Typically I have Strong (negative) Feelings about floral headbands on adults, as controversial as that may be.
I was very taken with Ka’oir lipsticks when Caitlin blogged about them, but wasn’t interested in paying $15 for shipping, so I was delighted to see this was in the bag of goodies she gave me. I love bright pink lips, and somehow this one is different to all of the other ones in my collection. I feel like it’s a bit metallic, if that’s not a strange thing to say about lipstick.
She also gave me another pink lipstick – Maybelline Colorsensational in the shade Hot Plum. I’d dispute that it’s a plum shade, but it is very pretty
I think I may need to expand my storage after these new additions to my collection! If there’s anything you’d like to see actually on my face, let me know in the comments and I’ll take a picture for you!
PS this is the third time this year that a friend has gone overseas and left me some beauty products – previously, Teresa from Brush and Bullet gave me a whole bunch of nail polishes. The hole in my heart is being filled with cosmetics.
