Hello friends! It’s been a while since I’ve blogged, and I’ve missed it so much. The last couple of months have been incredibly busy for me, and blogging has fallen by the wayside. During May, I started a new job and moved house within a couple of days. It has been a big upheaval but things have settled down now, so time for a bit of a catch up!
My new job is similar to my previous, still medical reception but with a different company. There’s been quite a big learning curve and I’ve been coming home with barely enough energy to even flick on the TV. I work with a great team, and I’m very happy there which is such a nice change! People who know me as a beauty blogger are often suprised that 1. I have a day job and 2. that it’s in the medical field. They tend to assume I work in communications or PR – as opposed to booking appointments and answering the phone. My job doesn’t sound terribly glamorous, and it’s not really, but it pays for my brunches and expensive hair appointments, so what more could a girl with no career direction want! I suppose my communication skills come into play with both, and my ability to type fast, and do a lot of googling, but that’s where the similarities end.
Since this job is on the other side of Auckland to my previous job, I decided to pack up and find a new flat closer to work. I scored a really great place and have a nice big room with my own bathroom. Moving to a new house means lots of opportunity to decorate, so I’ve had quite a few trips to Kmart for homewares. I’ve tried to develop a bit more of a cohesive and grown up aesthetic, but as all the soft toys on the bed show, I haven’t done that well. I bought that pink faux fur rug this weekend when I went shopping for bedside tables with Angela . Note a lack of bedside tables – it’s hard to find the perfect ones especially since I’m trying to stick to a bit of a budget. I had fun organising all my makeup and beauty products, it’s astounding how much I have when I have it all in one place.
Another thing I got up to during May was a long weekend down in Wellington to visit friends. I managed to cram a lot into 3 days which is good because I’m not sure when I will next be able to have a holiday, since I’ve got a new job. It had been over 2 and a half years since I was last in Wellington, on a somewhat ill-fated trip with my then partner shortly before we split up. So it was nice to make some new memories, go sightseeing, and eat a lot of delicious food. I had a wonderful time wandering through the city with my friend Angela, and Emily, the author of the fantastic book Rants in the Dark. If you are a parent, want to be a parent, or are looking for a gift for a parent – you should buy this book – Available from Mighty Ape
I’m not sure when I’ll be back to blogging regularly – aside from being super busy, I’ve found myself lacking inspiration a bit. Anyone who knows me will be very surprised to hear me say that I’ve run out of things to say, but I feel as if everything there is to say about beauty, I’ve already said it all over the last three years. Hopefully some ideas come to me soon, as just straight forward reviews and swatches aren’t the most creatively satisfying thing to produce. I really like to write posts that answer a question and inform people in some way – so if you have any questions, please feel free to ask! If you’ve been missing me, I’m a bit more active on Instagram, especially Stories, as well as going live from time to time, as it’s a bit more raw and less curated.
Until next time, Lena xxx
