Empty Beauty Products

It’s been a while since I’ve done an empties post! I have been trying a few different things skincare-wise lately, so I haven’t been getting through things as quickly as I normally might. Today I’ll be going through the beauty products I’ve finished during November, December and January, which are products from Batiste, Trilogy, Stridex, Comvita and Vaseline – let’s get started!

Batiste Dry Shampoo, Stridex acne pads, trilogy cream cleanser, comvita night cream, vaseline moisturiser

Batiste Dry Shampoo Brunette 200ml – $15.99 NZD
I LOVE THIS! I don’t know how we lived in a world without dry shampoo! Washed our hair all the damn time? Had dirty hair?? Now there’s the best of both worlds, thanks to this amazing product. I’ve used other varieties of Batiste, but Brunette is my favourite because the darker colour means there’s no risk of having white or grey roots. My long thick hair is a mare to wash, and often will get a bit oily at the roots while the lengths are perfectly fine. Using Batiste Dry Shampoo means I can easily get 3 days without washes.

Stridex Maximum Strength Acne Control Pads 90 – $6.61 USD
These are 2% salicylic acid, which is a Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA), and it works well at treating and preventing acne. BHAs are really recommended for acne-prone skin, and there’s a reason why Reddit’s awesome Skincare Addiction forum suggests this as an intro-level BHA product. I was happy with these pads, but I found them slightly drying on my skin. I’ve replaced it with Paula’s Choice BHA lotion which is more suitable for me. If you are acne-prone and are interested in trying chemical exfoliation I’d suggest picking these up on iherb. A guy I’m friends with suffers from ingrown hairs from shaving, and he actually finished off this tub, and said it helped his ingrown hairs and also acne.

Comvita Manuka Pure Hydrating Night Moisturiser 50ml – $55
I received this in the August Goodie Box, and I didn’t really use it much until I took it away with me over Christmas. It is a decent moisturiser, but I didn’t find it to be particularly special. It’s pretty expensive, and I didn’t notice any benefits from the Manuka Honey Extract.

Trilogy Cream Cleanser 100ml – $24.96
Last year I won tickets to attend the Hailwood show at NZ Fashion Week from Trilogy, and received a goodie pack which included travel sizes of some of their products. The Trilogy Cream Cleanser was part of that pack, and I also took it away with me over Christmas. I LOVE it – it’s so gentle and creamy, and leaves my skin feeling moisturised and soft, not dried or tight at all.

Repurchase? Once I’ve finished my existing hoard of cleansers.

Vaseline Total Moisture Dry Skin full size 200ml – $4.99
This product comes with a bit of a story. One day I was driving to work, and I realised I hadn’t moisturised, and my face was really dry. I wasn’t going to my usual office, which is well stocked with beauty products (see full post about my office stash here). To solve my moisturiser emergency, I pulled into a petrol station and paid an excessive sum of money for this tiny body lotion. Usually I wouldn’t apply something like this on my face, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Since that crisis, I’ve used the rest of the tube on my body, and it has worked wonderfully. It absorbs quickly, which is good because I hate lying around feeling greasy while waiting for a body lotion to absorb.

Repurchase? I would, when others ran out.

Have you use any of these products – what did you think? Also, if you’ve done an empties post recently pop a link in the comments, I love reading what other people have used up!

Loved this post, I really want to try that Trilogy cleanser. I love most of their products!!
I used to love that Vaseline lotion, but they’ve changed the formula or the scent or something and now I can’t use it without it giving me a massive headache 🙁 It’s a shame because often that’s what tattoo artists will recommend using these days!
I can’t get Batiste to work for me, but Camille loves it! I feel like it just refuses to work in my curly hair (like everything else!), but it works so well in hers that she can go days without washing her hair. Whereas I wash mine almost everyday. 🙁
Hoping to have an empties post up sometime this week – if all goes well 😛 oxoxo

    • I don’t think I’ve tried anything by Trilogy that I haven’t liked! I love all of their skincare. Oh man I can’t imagine washing my hair every day – I wash mine twice a week!! It’s so thick that it takes forever to wash and dry, like if I want to wash it before work I legit have to get up 45 minutes earlier! I love reading empties posts, cos you really get a good understanding of what people think of something, rather than a first impression

The Trilogy cleanser is one of my cleanser staples ! if you love the Trilogy one you will fall in love with the Plantae Orange and Bergamont one 🙂

    • I have tried that, and I really liked it! Gosh I’m a cleanser hoarder, I have like 6 in my bathroom at the moment.

  • I’ve been meaning to try Trilogy and Stridex for awhile. I might have to give in to spending and grab some (says the girl with way too much skincare already).

  • How amazing is the Batiste for brunettes?! I bloody love that stuff, just wish it wasn’t so expensive!!

    • I always stock up when I visit mum in Aussie, it’s way cheaper there! I don’t mind the normal batiste but Brunette is way better.

Now I know Batiste does a brunette version, I might give them another shot! My Lee Stafford brunette one has run out (during a no-buy month!!!) Husband swears by the Vaseline for travelling, he has several skin conditions and likes this for when it’s not appropriate to take the fatty cream with him. I might look at getting him the Stridex, that might be some skin care he would use if it would deal to his ingrown hairs!

    • It works so well for ingrown hairs! I think dry shampoo is a neccessity, shouldn’t be included in a no buy!!!

I’m not sure why I love empties posts so much, I think its because I get a bunch of short reviews in one easy to read blogpost! I love Trilogy products and use their rosehip oil pretty religiously so I will definitely pick up their cleanser if I have the $$. I have never tried a dry shampoo as they scare me a little…weird I know… but this brunette one sounds great! x
