Colourpop haul – review & swatches

Colourpop took the makeup world by storm a couple of years ago and has been going strong ever since. I had been put off by their expensive international shipping, but when I saw they had free international shipping with a spend of $50 I knew it was time to pull the trigger. I bought things from several of their different categories so I could really get to know what their products were like. I ordered two lip pencils, an ultra satin liquid lipstick, a lippie stix, an eyeshadow, and a blush. Shipping was reasonably fast, I ordered late at night on the 15th of November and it travelled all the way from Colourpop in LA to  New Zealand by the 24th of November. Keep reading for swatches, reviews, and pictures of these Colourpop goodies on my face.

I Heart This Lippie Pencil

I thought this bright fuchsia lip pencil would be great for either wearing on its own, or paired with one of my many bright pink lipsticks. I don’t always wear a lip pencil but when I do I find that I get a much longer wear time from my lipsticks. Wearing one underneath a gloss is a good way to get a more vivid colour as well as having a lip colour underneath for it to fade to. I Hear This is a red based fuchsia pencil which will be very versatile.

Liquid lipsticks and I have had a complicated relationship over the years. I like the idea, but I find the typical matte liquid lipsticks to be very drying (looking at you Australis Velourlips) so I was intrigued by the idea of a satin formula. Colourpop describes this shade as a rosy terracotta, but I would call it much more of a darker brown. It looks radically different to how it looks on Temptalia.

Creature Lippie Stix

This shade is a collaboration with blogger Eugenie from FeralCreature.com. I ‘met’ her on Instagram and despite having a MASSIVE audience she still has taken the time to share advice with little old me and I really appreciate it. Creature looks like a dark purple in the tube but on my lips it’s a deep burgundy red. The texture is matte but feels smooth on my lips which is a real plus in my book. Creature is described as “a sultry, fierce red for the world dominator” and that’s how I felt when I wore this colour.

Birthday Suit blush

I didn’t really need another blush, but I wanted this so I bought it anyway. It’s a simple pink that’s neither particularly warm or cool. The texture is soft and nearly creamy, similar to the eyeshadows. Like the eyeshadows, it’s best applied with your fingers and then blended out with a blush so your cheeks don’t look overly rosy.

So Quiche Super Shock Shadow

I pretty much wanted to buy this shadow based on the name alone. Ja’mie from Summer Heights High, a hilarious mockumentary, coined the phrase to describe people like herself who are “hotter than hot”.

So Quiche is a soft olive with a highly reflective gold and pink violet glittery duo chrome metallic finish. It’s truly unlike any other shadow in my rather extensive collection. The formula of Colourpop Super Shock Shadows is also unique, with a soft texture that’s almost a cream. This formula is best applied with fingers, but then you can use a brush to blend at the edges. I love the way it makes my eyes look and other people also commented – even a boy who would not usually notice such things. I wore it without primer to give it a test on its own and it lasted all day without creasing or wearing off.

Colourpop is very cheap, even after converting to NZD, so you can take a gamble and try trends you might not usually have worn. Until the end of the year, international shipping is free for orders under $50 so get in quick! Colourpop is only available from Colourpop.com

  • Lippie Pencil $5
  • Lippie Stix $5
  • Ultra Satin Lip $6
  • Super Shock Shadow $5
  • Super Shock Blush $8

I’m seriously considering squeezing in another order before the end of the year – has anyone got any recommendations for me? or anything I should steer clear of?

  • You ordered some great products! I really love the color of the lippie pencil in I heart this. 🙂

  • I’m a huge fan of Colourpop lip products and eye shadows, and also placed an order when they had the free shipping. The Ultra Mattes are a lot less drying than I thought, and their Supershock shadows are unbelievably gorgeous xxx

    • Oh that’s good to know! I’m always a bit wary of matte lipsticks.

      • Me too – I’ve tried a few that seem to suck every drop of moisture out of my lips within half an hour, awful…

So Quiche is such a stunning shade, very difficult to capture in photos. It’s one of my faves from Colourpop.
