Eyebrow threading is something that I had long been interested in trying, but was a little scared of doing. Putting your brows into someone else’s hands requires a lot of trust, and I’m sure we all have stories about that going horribly wrong. One of my best friends Victoria is a major threading fan, but since we live at opposite ends of the country I couldn’t go to her trusted threader. Then the other day I was at the mall at a bit of a loose end, and noticed that there was now a threading kiosk there. I watched the lady doing it for a while, and noticed that people were leaving with great brows. So I decided to take the plunge and try getting my brows threaded for the very first time. I posted about it on Twitter and people were quite interested, so this post is all about my experience with eyebrow threading.
I have wanted eyelash extensions for years, but had never taken the plunge. My natural lashes are okay, but not amazing. I also loved the idea of always having amazing lashes even when I’m not wearing makeup, especially because I don’t wear it to work most days. Recently I got the opportunity to have a complimentary set of lash extensions from Mai Beauty Lounge. Michelle, the lady behind Mai Beauty Lounge, reached out and offered me a set of lashes in exchange for promotion of her new lash services. After working as a nail technician for years, she recently qualified in the application of eyelash extensions. The lash set she applied on me is gorgeous, and I also learned a lot about how it all works. Keep reading for more about my experience, as well as some important information about eyelash extensions.
As you may have seen on my Instagram I recently got sent a bundle of goodies from Essence, and in it included Essence The Gel Nail Polish in the shade Pretty Cool Life. Not to be confused with their Gel Nails at Home range, The Gel Nail Polish is Essence’s conventional polish range, which was formerly known as Color & Go. Unlike a traditional gel polish you don’t need a UV or LED lamp to cure Essence The Gel Nail Polish. My understanding is that it is similar to Sally Hansen Miracle Gel and Revlon Gel Envy ranges. I put this polish to the test over the last week, and now I’m sharing my review of Essence The Gel Nail Polish with you all.
I was lucky enough to win a voucher for a microdermabrasion treatment at Caci Clinic via a giveaway from Rose and Thorne. I had heard great things about microdermabrasion previously but never quite understood what was involved, so I was quite excited. I had my treatment and complimentary skin consulation at Caci Clinic Milford a couple of weeks ago. People on social media seemed very curious about microdermabrasion, and peppered me with questions about it. This post is about my experience of having microdermabrasion, as well as some research I’ve done into the microdermabrasion procedure.
Ever since I drastically lightened my hair, it has been needing a bit of extra help with hydration to return it to its former glory. So, I wanted to share my thoughts on the three different hair treatments I have been using lately. They are the OGX Argan Oil of Morocco intensive treatment (formerly Organix), Sebastian Professional Hydre Treatment, and Lush Jasmine & Henna Fluff-Eaze Hair Treatment – so at three varying price points, and made of different ingredients. Keep reading to see how I use them, and what I like about them.
During my recent trip to Melbourne, Priceline was having a 40% off cosmetics sale! Priceline is always one of my first stops in Australia, for makeup, skincare, haircare, and basically every product I want to buy. They have a great range of ‘drugstore’ brands, and include quite a few that we don’t have easily accessible in New Zealand. Makeup is generally cheaper in Australia than in NZ, so I was pretty excited by that! I didn’t actually end up buying a huge amount of makeup because my collection is a ridiculous size (I blame blogging for that), but I did get a few things from Australis, L’Oreal, and Maybelline.
Foot peeling masks are something that I had been curious about for a while ever since reading about them on a few different blogs. Recently I’ve been going through my beauty product stash in preparation for moving house and I discovered that I actually had a foot peeling mask! My friend Louisa from the blog Intrepid Forays and Adventures gave me a bunch of masks she had got in Meme Boxes and amongst that was the Pureplus Skin Freyia Foot Peeling Mask. My feet have been a bit rough lately and since it’s sandal weather I decided to put it to the test. Keep reading for my review which includes photos of it in action!
Finding a foundation that matches is hard enough, but finding a concealer that matches that as well is a struggle. Revlon have come up with a way to solve this problem by creating the new Revlon 2-in-1 Compact Makeup & Concealer which I was lucky enough to be sent by Revlon before it was released. I’ve reviewed the compact, as well as showing how the Colorstay foundation looks on my skin. I had never actually used the normal Revlon Colorstay, however my mum owns 8 bottles at last count so I had faith that it would be a good product. I went to my local Revlon counter and the sales assistant there matched me to the shade Nude. The shades available are: Natural Beige, Sand Beige, Medium Beige, Buff, Nude, Natural Tan, True Beige, Ivory, and Warm Golden. The shade range isn’t the widest, pale or dark skinned women may miss out which is a shame, but fortunately for me Nude matched me well. The compact comes with a sponge, and also includes a mirror, which makes it perfect to pop in your handbag and take away on holiday. Now – what you’re really here for is to see how the Colorstay foundation […]
During January I managed to finish a respectable five products, as well as deciding to throw out a couple of things that I just never use. They were: Trilogy botanical body wash*, Eleven miracle hair treatment, Neutrogena Hydro Boost SPF 15 as well as a sample size, Manicare Cuticle Therapy Oil, Kleancolour Madly Matte top coat, and Jordana calcium basecoat. All bar one of them were full sized as well, so that’s a good effort. I haven’t been wearing as much makeup lately because it is SO HOT and humid here in Auckland so that probably explains why everything is skincare, hair, body, and nail products. Eleven Miracle Hair Treatment I got this in a subscription box way back in September 2014! I went back to see what I wrote about it when I originally got it and I said “Even considering how much I need to use for my long hair, I think this would last a fairly decent amount of time, so it’s good value for money” – well I was right! I used this the majority of times that I wash my hair and I always noticed a difference in how it dried. Repurchase? Probably, I’m currently using a […]
Today I am doing a Lush haul – I’ll be showing you the great products that I bought recently, and giving you my first impressions of the product. It’s not a full review of them, mainly because I was too excited and didn’t want to wait. The products that I bought are Lemony Flutter Cuticle Butter, Dirty Toothy Tabs, Soft Coeur Massage Bar, and Stepping Stone foot scrub. Three of the four items are things I’ve never tried, but they came highly recommended by friends so I took the plunge and threw my usual cautious researching to the wind. I don’t usually do haul posts, mainly because I haven’t been shopping much for the last year or so, and also because when I do buy things I get really excited and post them on instagram immediately and then tear into them…and maybe review them a few months later. NOT THIS TIME THOUGH. I tore into it in my car, but then I got down to taking photos before I started using them. Such dedication.
