NYX Professional Makeup is a brand I have been loving for years and writing about since the early days of this blog. A NYX primer featured in my very first blog post back in April 2014! That’s why I was super stoked to be invited to an event held by NYX recently where we got glammed up, learned a bit more about the new releases, and left with some goodies to try. I’ve given them a road test, and today I have a review to share about these new products from NYX Professional Makeup.
It’s an exciting time for beauty addicts down under, as Mecca Maxima has released their own brand – Mecca Max. They have products in just about every category – foundation, nail polish, brushes & other tools, false lashes. You can do your entire face from this range! For overseas readers, Mecca Maxima is our answer to Sephora. They have stands where you can try products, lots of fun minis, and helpful staff. There is a sister store Mecca Cosmetica which is more expensive products, skincare, and fine fragrance. My taste is more aligned with Mecca Maxima so I’m very excited that they are opening a store here in Auckland! “A collection of 25 ‘MAXimiser’ products that hero the range, with stand-outs including eye and skin primers, a strobing stick, an artistry palette and a double-ended mascara. Plus the entry-level price point means items range from just $5 to $45, making MECCA MAX accessible to beauty novices and devotees alike.” I was extremely lucky to be sent a very generous package of products from the Mecca Max range, which I have been putting to the test over the last couple of weeks. I also put them all on my face to show […]
Early in 2016, MAC Cosmetics released their take on matte liquid lipsticks with their Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour collection. I didn’t try them then, but now they’re back. This year’s Retro Matte collection is full of deep and muted tones, ready for the autum/winter season here in New Zealand. I was sent three of the shades from this range by MAC Cosmetics and in this post I will be showing you how they look as well as sharing my thoughts on them.
W7 Cosmetics is an affordable and on-trend brand of makeup, and today I’ve tried it for the first time. W7 was started in the UK 10 years ago with the intention of creating high quality cosmetics at a low price. I was sent a few products of their range from Postie+, who stock them in New Zealand. This post is going to be my first impressions of the range, and I’ve showed them on my face too. Settle in, this is going to be a bit of a lengthy post. It’s always fun to try a new range of makeup, especially when it’s cheap. I tend to have champagne tastes but a beer budget, so I like to find bargains.
For Christmas my stepsister Raquel gave me the Kylie Cosmetics Dirty Peach Lip Kit. She asked if I wanted anything when she went to the Kylie pop up shop but I wasn’t sure about what shades there were so I told her to just pick one. She told me that the sales assistant said it was one of their most popular shades, and was versatile for different skin tones. Dirty Peach is a mid-tone yellow peach and it’s unlike any other lipstick shade I have. However, it is still perfectly wearable for my fairly conservative receptionist job. In this post I’ve got a review and swatches of the Kylie Cosmetics Dirty Peach Lip Kit, so keep reading.
Colourpop took the makeup world by storm a couple of years ago and has been going strong ever since. I had been put off by their expensive international shipping, but when I saw they had free international shipping with a spend of $50 I knew it was time to pull the trigger. I bought things from several of their different categories so I could really get to know what their products were like. I ordered two lip pencils, an ultra satin liquid lipstick, a lippie stix, an eyeshadow, and a blush. Shipping was reasonably fast, I ordered late at night on the 15th of November and it travelled all the way from Colourpop in LA to New Zealand by the 24th of November. Keep reading for swatches, reviews, and pictures of these Colourpop goodies on my face.
Essence Cosmetics is a relative newcomer to the New Zealand makeup scene, and I’ve been a big fan ever since their launch. Essence releases new products all throughout the year which keeps the range fresh and up with current trends. They recently sent me a huge bundle of products, as you may have seen on my instagram and I decided to put them all on my face. Well, not all at once – that would be ridiculous! What I did was a full face look using all Essence products, and I’ll give a quick rundown on my thoughts of each item. Let’s start with the first product I applied which is Camouflage 2 in 1 makeup and concealer – 10 Ivory beige. It claims that it will give long lasting, high coverage to hide all imperfections and provide a matte and flawless finish without a mask-like effect. That seemed like a pretty big claim to me, so I put it to the test. To be honest I didn’t find the coverage particularly high – I have others that give much more coverage. I built it up as a concealer on the parts of my face that have the most blemishes but I still wasn’t […]
Burt’s Bees make my favourite lip balm, so I’m sure you can imagine my excitement when they released a range of lipsticks recently. I was sent a couple of the brand new Burt’s bees Lipsticks to review, and I have been wearing them constantly for the last couple of months. There are 14 shades in the range, and I have two to show you today. They are Lily Lake and Scarlet Soaked – one muted, one bold, so they’re appropriate for various different occasions.
MAC Good Luck Trolls is a limited edition collection that came out recently, and I’ve had some great fun trying out the products that MAC Cosmetics sent to me. The range of colours are rather unusual, and rather than trying to work them into some ‘everyday’ makeup looks I decided to go all out with them. This isn’t so much a makeup tutorial, more a look into the sort of madness a beauty blogger gets up to with fun new products, so I hope you enjoy!
Good Luck Trolls is MAC Cosmetics’ newest limited edition collection and it has filled me with glee. The packaging is bright, as are the colours contained inside. This post isn’t a full review as I only received my press samples a few days before the collection came out, but I wanted to give you all a look at what the collection is like – so you know to head to your local counters! I’ve also included pricing and store availability for MAC in New Zealand, since this information can be hard for us to find. “Hair we go! The wild-haired dolls of your youth bring their rainbow tufts, bejewelled bellies and lucky charms to M·A·C Good Luck Trolls – a crazy-hued collection as silly as the creatures themselves. From Lipglass in Bubble Butt to Eye Shadow in Suns Out, Buns Out and Beauty Powder in Glo Rida…being a troll has never been so glamorous!”
