Lena Talks Beauty Empties - August and September

Empties: August & September

Time has got away on me – my formerly monthly empties posts have now seemed to become every second month! This post is a bit of a long one, so I better get cracking. I finished 15 products, 12 of them full size (including 2 single-use masks), and 3 mini/sample sized. The products range across haircare, skincare, body products, makeup, and nails. Hair Batiste Dry Shampoo – Eden (honeysuckle & sugarmelon) I don’t remember the last time I wrote an empties post and it didn’t include a can of Batiste dry shampoo. This fragrance was amazing, my favourite of them all. Repurchase? Already have Olaplex Hair Perfector I’ve been using Olaplex for about the last year, and it was great at rehabbing my damaged hair. Since I’ve got my hair to a good condition and started just being Ombre blonde rather than full highlights, I haven’t used it as much. Doesn’t seem really neccessary at the moment, especially not at $50 for a bottle I get maybe 5 uses from. Repurchase? Maybe sometime in the future Body Weleda Pomegranate Creamy Body Wash* I loved the way this smelled, and it made my skin feel amazing – but there’s a but. […]

Essence Cosmetics Summer 2016 releases

Essence Cosmetics is a relative newcomer to the New Zealand makeup scene, and I’ve been a big fan ever since their launch. Essence releases new products all throughout the year which keeps the range fresh and up with current trends. They recently sent me a huge bundle of products, as you may have seen on my instagram and I decided to put them all on my face. Well, not all at once – that would be ridiculous! What I did was a full face look using all Essence products, and I’ll give a quick rundown on my thoughts of each item. Let’s start with the first product I applied which is Camouflage 2 in 1 makeup and concealer – 10 Ivory beige. It claims that it will give long lasting, high coverage to hide all imperfections and provide a matte and flawless finish without a mask-like effect. That seemed like a pretty big claim to me, so I put it to the test. To be honest I didn’t find the coverage particularly high – I have others that give much more coverage. I built it up as a concealer on the parts of my face that have the most  blemishes but I still wasn’t […]

YSL Touche Éclat Le Teint Awakening Foundation

YSL Touche Éclat Le Teint Awakening Foundation is the most luxurious foundation I have ever used, but does its performance match up to its beautiful packaging? YSL Touche Éclat highlighting pen is incredibly popular for it’s brightening and luminizing effects so it’s sister foundation was created in 2012. Now YSL Beauté have released an advanced formula which promises to deliver “sublime radiance, weightlessness, and the perfect coverage for an even and luminous skin enlivened with a healthy-looking glow”. I was lucky enough to be sent this by YSL and have been using it for the last few weeks, and will be sharing my review of it in this post.

March and April empties

This post combines my empties from March and April, since I didn’t get the chance to write a post at the end of March. I finished or decided to throw away 9 different items over those two months, from makeup to skincare, haircare, body and more. The empties are from Models Prefer, Essence, Real Techniques, Za, La Roche-Posay, and Lush. Get ready for a long post, because I have a lot to say about them – maybe make yourself a cup of tea, I’ll be waiting right here.

Revlon Colorstay Compact 2 in 1 featured image - lena talks beauty

Revlon 2-in-1 Colorstay Compact review

Finding a foundation that matches is hard enough, but finding a concealer that matches that as well is a struggle. Revlon have come up with a way to solve this problem by creating the new Revlon 2-in-1 Compact Makeup & Concealer which I was lucky enough to be sent by Revlon before it was released. I’ve reviewed the compact, as well as showing how the Colorstay foundation looks on my skin. I had never actually used the normal Revlon Colorstay, however my mum owns 8 bottles at last count so I had faith that it would be a good product. I went to my local Revlon counter and the sales assistant there matched me to the shade Nude. The shades available are: Natural Beige, Sand Beige, Medium Beige, Buff, Nude, Natural Tan, True Beige, Ivory, and Warm Golden. The shade range isn’t the widest, pale or dark skinned women may miss out which is a shame, but fortunately for me Nude matched me well. The compact comes with a sponge, and also includes a mirror, which makes it perfect to pop in your handbag and take away on holiday. Now – what you’re really here for is to see how the Colorstay foundation […]

Benefit High Beam - Lena Talks Beauty

Benefit High Beam

A year or so ago, I bought the Benefit High Beam highlighter. I thought it was really pretty, but I didn’t really know how to use it. You can use it by applying it directly to your cheekbones, but I have since developed a different method that I prefer. It gives me luminous skin without being excessively highlighted, even for a day-to-day wear. Keep reading to find out just what that method is…

Bourjois close up - Lena Talks Beauty

Face of the Day with Bourjois

Bourjois is one of the oldest cosmetics houses, being founded in 1863 in France. It may have taken over 150 years but Bourjois is finally in New Zealand! I went to an event recently where we got to try a lot of their products, and learn more about the brand. I actually already had bought some Bourjois products, and received some for my birthday from a friend overseas, but I’m really glad that they’re in New Zealand now. I did a full face of makeup using exclusively Bourjois products, and here it is!

Moisture Mist beauty cake and ZA makeup

Limited Edition Moisture Mist Beauty Cake

Moisture Mist Beauty Cake is specially formulated for New Zealand women – New Zealand is the only country where it is available! This year, Moisture Mist has released a Limited Edition Beauty Cake with packaging that is designed by artist Michael Tompsett that shows a colourful map of New Zealand. I was given one of these, along with a few other products from Moisture Mist at an event they hosted for beauty bloggers recently. Today I’m going to show you the Moisture Mist Beauty Cake, the Translucent Pressed Powder in both Medium Beige and Bronze, as well as sharing a bit of a review of all of them.

Collection Naturally Matt Foundation

Collection Cosmetics recently launched their Naturally Matt Foundation here in New Zealand, and sent some to me to review. I typically don’t wear matte foundations, but I decided to give this a try in the interests of being a good beauty blogger. I’m glad I did, as it’s a lovely foundation – not chalky or dry like other matte foundations that I’ve tried previously. I’m not entirely sure why it’s ‘matt’ as opposed to ‘matte’ – it makes me think it’s a boy which is kind of funny.

FOTD with Maybelline Fit Me Foundation

With the help of Maybelline’s chart, I recently discovered that Maybelline Fit Me Foundation is supposed to be my perfect match. I was sent it to try out and today I’ll be sharing my thoughts, as well as a look that I did the other weekend wearing it. I’ve called this a FOTD (Face Of The Day) but really it’s more like FOTOD (Face Of The Other Day). My skin is dry, and I like to wear a dewy foundation, so this sounded just right for me. I chose shade 120 – Classic Ivory based on my MAC shade being NW20, and luckily it was right! The ten shades available in New Zealand range from 115 Ivory to 310 Sun Beige.
