eyebrow threading

My eyebrow threading experience

Eyebrow threading is something that I had long been interested in trying, but was a little scared of doing. Putting your brows into someone else’s hands requires a lot of trust, and I’m sure we all have stories about that going horribly wrong. One of my best friends Victoria is a major threading fan, but since we live at opposite ends of the country I couldn’t go to her trusted threader. Then the other day I was at the mall at a bit of a loose end, and noticed that there was now a threading kiosk there. I watched the lady doing it for a while, and noticed that people were leaving with great brows. So I decided to take the plunge and try getting my brows threaded for the very first time. I posted about it on Twitter and people were quite interested, so this post is all about my experience with eyebrow threading.

Marzena Large Wax Strips Review - Lena Talks Beauty

Marzena at-home waxing review

This post is sponsored by Marzena At-home waxing was something that usually filled my heart with fear due to a few mishaps when I was younger, however recently I was contacted by Marzena who asked if I would like to try any of their products to write about. Marzena is a well-known New Zealand company that was founded 27 years ago, before I was even born! They have a variety of products encompassing both waxing and depilatory creams. I decided it was time to get back on the horse, and chose the Marzena large wax strips for legs and body. It’s heading towards spring and my legs have been hiding all winter, so it was time for some defuzzing. In this post I have reviewed the Marzena waxing kit as well as shared some advice for waxing success.

Off wax and laser - Lena Talks Beauty

My Laser Hair Removal Experience

A year ago I wrote a post about my experience having IPL (intense pulsed light) hair removal treatments, and it feels like time for an update about how it’s going. I had been having treatments on my underarms for nearly 3 years, and to be honest, I was fed up. My hairs were much softer and lighter…but they were mostly still there which is not what I wanted. I had raised my frustration with the clinic a few times and they did do their best for me, but it just wasn’t quite good enough. Then one day I saw on facebook that Off Wax, a waxing bar that I used to go to before I started to get IPL/and still sometimes get my brows done at, is now Off Wax and Laser. I went for a consultation there, and embarked on my first laser hair removal session! In this post I’ll explain the difference between IPL and laser hair removal, and write about my experience getting laser hair removal.

Remington at home IPL - lena talks beauty

Remington i-LIGHT Pro+ IPL hair removal

A few months ago, I was offered the opportunity to trial the Remington i-LIGHT Pro+ IPL hair removal device. It uses the same IPL (intense pulsed light) technology that is used in salons, except you can use it in the privacy of your own home. I have previously had IPL done on other body parts in a salon, but for this I was starting afresh on my legs which I’ve only ever shaved. I was excited but also nervous to start using it. Well now after a trial of the machine I can report back on the results, and also what it was like to use it!

my IPL experience

Hair removal is a something that has a lot of different methods, and I’ve tried most of them over the years – shaving, waxing, epilating and depilatory creams. Shaving always left me with irritated skin and stubble the next day, waxing and epilating hurt a lot and depilatory creams just didn’t work. I decided to get IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) hair removal a couple of years ago, after seeing my mum’s great results. I started with my underarms, and have since done my bikini area too – might be too much information but I’m all about being open here! I am so glad I did  – the salon I go to says “Once you’ve tried IPL Laser Hair Removal treatment you really will wonder why you waited so long” – and that is SO TRUE. The best explanation for how it works is as follows: As the IPL treatment head is guided over the hair removal treatment area, light flashes are discharged on the skin. These pulsed light flashes are absorbed by the hair. When the pigment in the hair follicle absorbs this light, the energy is converted into heat, which damages the hair follicle. Hundreds of hair follicles are destroyed by each […]
