NYX Professional Makeup is a brand I have been loving for years and writing about since the early days of this blog. A NYX primer featured in my very first blog post back in April 2014! That’s why I was super stoked to be invited to an event held by NYX recently where we got glammed up, learned a bit more about the new releases, and left with some goodies to try. I’ve given them a road test, and today I have a review to share about these new products from NYX Professional Makeup.

It’s an exciting time for beauty addicts down under, as Mecca Maxima has released their own brand – Mecca Max. They have products in just about every category – foundation, nail polish, brushes & other tools, false lashes. You can do your entire face from this range! For overseas readers, Mecca Maxima is our answer to Sephora. They have stands where you can try products, lots of fun minis, and helpful staff. There is a sister store Mecca Cosmetica which is more expensive products, skincare, and fine fragrance. My taste is more aligned with Mecca Maxima so I’m very excited that they are opening a store here in Auckland!
“A collection of 25 ‘MAXimiser’ products that hero the range, with stand-outs including eye and skin primers, a strobing stick, an
artistry palette and a double-ended mascara. Plus the entry-level price point means items range from just $5 to $45, making MECCA MAX accessible to beauty novices and devotees alike.”

L’Oréal is a brand that I cut my makeup teeth on, so to speak. I remember I always used to try on L’Oréal products while waiting for prescriptions at the pharmacy, or at department stores. Then I got a bit older, and began to buy my own makeup and primarily bought “drugstore” brands with a lot from L’Oréal. Then I got even older and started earning more, spending more, and became a blogger and before long I stopped frequenting the self select makeup stands. So it has been fun for me to try these products and revisit what I liked about L’Oréal.
A little while ago I attended an event hosted by L’Oréal for bloggers and other beauty media to try some of their latest releases. You may have seen previews of this on my Instagram, and now I’ve finally written a blog post about the products I received at that event.

Early in 2016, MAC Cosmetics released their take on matte liquid lipsticks with their Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour collection. I didn’t try them then, but now they’re back. This year’s Retro Matte collection is full of deep and muted tones, ready for the autum/winter season here in New Zealand. I was sent three of the shades from this range by MAC Cosmetics and in this post I will be showing you how they look as well as sharing my thoughts on them.

I recently wrote a post about my experience of getting eyelash extensions. It’s been a wee while since then, so I wanted to do a follow up and answer some reader questions about my lash extensions. I’ve answered questions about lasting time, effects, and behaviours to avoid. I’ve also given my advice for how to find a good lash technician. For disclosure purposes – my lash services were complimentary for the purposes of a social media post, and I’m just blogging about it because I found it so interesting.

Rimmel Magnif’Eyes Eyeshadow Palettes came out here in New Zealand during January and I was lucky enough to be sent two of them. I’ve been wearing them pretty regularly over the last month or so and it’s time to share my thoughts. The palettes have eight eyeshadows in them, with a mix of matte and shimmers. Both palettes have a good collection of eyeshadow colours to create a variety of looks from, which make them very versatile. Keep reading to see them swatched and in use, as well as my review of them.

W7 Cosmetics is an affordable and on-trend brand of makeup, and today I’ve tried it for the first time. W7 was started in the UK 10 years ago with the intention of creating high quality cosmetics at a low price. I was sent a few products of their range from Postie+, who stock them in New Zealand. This post is going to be my first impressions of the range, and I’ve showed them on my face too. Settle in, this is going to be a bit of a lengthy post. It’s always fun to try a new range of makeup, especially when it’s cheap. I tend to have champagne tastes but a beer budget, so I like to find bargains.

Too Faced’s Sweet Peach Eyeshadow Palette was one of the biggest makeup releases of 2016. It sold out very quickly, but now it’s back! This palette will be available on Tuesday 31st January from Mecca Maxima in New Zealand and Australia. Ahead of it’s release, I was sent it to review and was so excited that I screamed and called one of my friends. I hadn’t owned anything by Too Faced since it hadn’t been sold in New Zealand until Mecca Maxima opened here late in 2016. I had swatched a few things at Mecca Maxima in Australia a few years ago, but mostly just eyed international bloggers with jealousy. Read on to have a closer look at the Too Faced Sweet Peach eyeshadow palette, as well as seeing it in action.

For Christmas my stepsister Raquel gave me the Kylie Cosmetics Dirty Peach Lip Kit. She asked if I wanted anything when she went to the Kylie pop up shop but I wasn’t sure about what shades there were so I told her to just pick one. She told me that the sales assistant said it was one of their most popular shades, and was versatile for different skin tones. Dirty Peach is a mid-tone yellow peach and it’s unlike any other lipstick shade I have. However, it is still perfectly wearable for my fairly conservative receptionist job. In this post I’ve got a review and swatches of the Kylie Cosmetics Dirty Peach Lip Kit, so keep reading.

Kylie Jenner has a pop up shop open for the holiday period, and Lena Talks Beauty’s Los Angeles correspondent visited to report back about the experience. By Los Angeles correspondent, I mean my stepsister Raquel. She’s a flight attendant who flies between Los Angeles and Brisbane on a weekly basis, and her LA base is near to the mall where the Kylie Jenner Pop Up Shop is located – how convenient! I’m not really the biggest Kylie Jenner fan, I’m more into the older Kardashians, but being in the beauty industry means I’ve followed her influence on makeup trends. I have tried a few of my friends Kylie Cosmetics liquid lipsticks which made me really want some so I was excited for Raquel’s visit to the store. The store sells the Kylie Cosmetics range, as well as clothing and accessories.
